Preparing for winter II

I have been clearing out the kitchen cupboards and I have found a life time supply of tea lights :rotfl:. Gathered them all into the same place and I have put the matches next to them so when our lights go out again I don't have to go rummaging in the dark!
I have a very specific place for my torch and for candles.
They both live in the drawer that sits between my fridge and my cooker. It's the easiest drawer to find in the dark.
The torch is in the front right hand corner AND... to stop it rolling about and getting lost as the drawer is opened and closed over time... I have a lump of blu-tack more or less welded to the inside front of the drawer and just dab the torch to it. That means I can always find it quickly and easily.
Candles and a box of matches live in a cut down milk container in the far left corner of the same drawer.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Just stocked up on fabric conditioner - it is on offer at the moment. I now have enough washing powder and conditioner to last quite awhile - and there are six of us:D All bought on offer so saved myself quite a bit too.

Very intermittent internet connection today for some reason ....:(
On a brighter note, thanks to whoever mentioned the summer duvets being sold off at Mr A (sorry, forgotten who:o) - I managed to get a double (£4.60) for the dog's bed and a king (£5.42) for mine.
I did ponder on the one for me as I bought one fairly recently but at that price it seemed silly to pass on as they're too big for my machine (double OK) and cost £8 to clean.
It'll also give me more options during the winter as I'll be able to mix them up a bit more and could have both the 4.5's on for around a 9 tog (I was a bit hot with the 7.5 & 4.5 at around a 12 tog last year).:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Unfortunately my preparing for winter plans have taken a bit of a head on collision, as I may not be living in my current flat come winter. My boyfriend and I have split up and whilst we both share the tenancy on the flat, I think I'll be the one moving out. I'm not sure how I can continue preparing when I don't know what my circumstances will be. I have most of the basics sorted, fleece blankets, thermals, hat, scarf and gloves, but all the bigger things I'd started in this flat I don't really want to continue as they are no longer for my benefit. Any practical suggestions for what I could do would be welcome.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

Awwww Toonie, sorry to hear this ..... and totally understand why you'd not want to continue with things if you may be moving out shortly.
I can't offer much advice only to say that, if it were me, I'd probably box all the "winter" stuff up together (and anything you've bought for the flat that's "movable" such as curtains etc) and then it's easily identified if you have to move.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Thanks, I'm going to start going through my stuff today and have a bit of a sort out. Want to see this is a time to declutter and only take stuff with me that is useful or precious. So, I'll take time to inventory what winter things I do have.
The only major bits I've bought recently are a couple of extra blankets and some draught proofing stuff for doors, so there isn't too much in that sense. I had been looking for curtains for the window in the living room, but hadn't found anything yet.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
I am planning on hibernating all winter. All I need to to is get my winter duvet out of the loft, find my soup recipe book and load up my kindle with lots of free books
I just looked at our account and saw we used £60 worth of gas just in December last year and we were away for one week that month. At the moment we're using less than £10 worthWe're in about £100 credit, paying £27 by direct debit and I'm hoping to be able to claim some back in the spring so we're going to try really hard this winter to keep the bills low.
Thinking back to last year I think we spent loads cause I had loads of hot bubble baths that I'd spent hours in, keeping the water heated for top-ups. I need to be more careful this winter and view them as a special treat.0 -
Toonie, so sorry to hear about your split. You will have lots of other things to organise this year with moving out and de-cluttering. Life is ever changing and often there is a new challenge around the corner.
I promise there will be another winter next year to prepare for!0 -
Toonie i'm sorry about your split. Hope you get yourself settled somewere now soon.
We've changed our bedroom furniture around to the winter placement. It means the radiator area is clear so I can use the airer next to it.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
Itthe duvet with a torch - why are the tops of juimjams Sooo flippin' useless - often short sleeved and short in the body. I went in to a Matalan today to see if they had fleecy pjs and was frankly appalled at the lack of anythinf remotely cosy. Note to self - what IS the point of Matalan? What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
