stay safe Kathy, and i have a question for you, home made biscuits..... do you have a recipe for them? at the moment i have to confess using a packet mix from a store that sells lots of american products, as we are hooked on biscuits and gravy!!! (american biscuits are like fluffier scones for those who haven't had them, and the gravy is a white sauce type gravy seasoned well with chunks of cooked down sausage in it) i will admit i add old bay seasoning to my gravy but wow its good!! :D

I have to be honest-- I usually use a package mix. In the US we have Bisquick and Jiffy baking mixes-- just add milk;) The southern US is famous for their biscuits-- and they are yummy. I'd suggest googling Paula Deen's biscuits. I bet hers are fantastic!

Are we all expecting another harsh winter?

Really do think I need to be a bit more organised this year, I tend to be a bit complacent with living in the city with shops close by but 2 Christmas on the trot I have been caught out trudging a x-mas food shop 1 mile in snow:(

Reading through this list has given me some food for thought off to make myself a list.

    Hi
Pretty wet down here in south London but still warm dh has the fan on:eek:

Have made a lovely list of things for my winter store and made a start by washing all the kids winter clothes and checked what still needs buying, have just bought dd's winter boots.
Took the dog for her MOT so she is all sorted, just thought that she could do with a jacket for the cold, she is getting on now with some stiffness in her back legs, does anyone have a recommendation of a reasonably priced dog coat, or even a simple pattern, am not a great sewer :p
    Thanks x

Sirens, Masta do some really nice rugs for dogs both our labrador and spaniel have one fitted for them. It has a waterproof outer layer with a fleece iner lining and these last three bad winters they have been a boon for them. The best thing is that if they get wet/dity they are so easy to wash and very quick to dry, the have velcro fasteners as well. Highly recommend them. The lab has had his since 2004 and it is hard wearing bearing in mind we walk ours through the fields.

    Try this one:-

You will need to measure your dog from his neck to the start of his tail and that will give you the size you need to buy.

Up here in Scotland its freezing, my outside thermometer reads between 9 and 10 degrees and my inside one reads 19 degrees, OH just opened the back door and I swear it was a big gush of cold air, He thinks its all in my head because im in winter mode. I nearly put on the CH the only thing stopping me is thought of the huge bills if i put on in August, still trying to hold off mid september but at this rate it will be on next week, anyone else thought put on CH yet or is it just in my head,

It's not in your head....up here in Aberdeen it's freezing too....doesn't help that it's blowing a hoolie and lashing it down with rain. I'm currently on the sofa wrapped up in pjs, fluffy dressing gown, snuggie and fluffy slippers.

No you are not alone I seriously thought about switching on the heating this afternoon. I went and put one of the thicker fleeces on though instead of hitting the on button. They are saying it is going to be noticeably colder at night and watching Countryfile weather forecast rural places can expect early frosts! So it is far from being in your head. They also had red autumnal falling leaves in the weather forecasters 'globe'! It will probably be a long winter but don't forget that we had a mild March and an unseasonably warm April so try not to be too downhearted about it. We haven't had the heating on hardly since April so we have saved some!

Somebody earlier mentioned she couldn't go out with her baby in a buggy for several weeks because of the snow/ice... And someone else posted this link re bicycles (think it might have been Kittie?) HERE and I thought the same principle could be applied for buggies/prams :)

    Hope that helps someone :)

    Thank you that was me!!!!

am going to try that on the buggy wheels this year!!!
