Just wanted to chip in and thank everyone who has contributed to this thread :T I like others am taking notes and feel determined to truly be 'prepared' this year. And like others have said it is not necessarily about the severity of the weather - some people live more rurally, with the potential to be really cut off - it doesn't have to be -17 degrees to flood, or high winds to cause loss of power.
I live in the middle of a very large town. It is not highly likely that I won't be able to get out for milk, bread etc (supply permitting of course) - however we all have our own reasons for making preparations and for me it's about my children - last year I had a newborn in the house so the heating was on FAR too much. I can barely cover the repayments so things like door curtains and fleece linings are going to make a big difference - not if it is a 'severe' winter but just because it is winter at all. Also my son suffered from very bad eczema last winter and at times we actually could not go out - to do so meant agony for his poor face. So having a stock of basic food etc means I can prioritise his health over supermarket visits.
And hey if it is positively balmy then we'll all be prepared WAY in advance for next year :cool:0 -

Not bought these but I have recently bought wooden blinds off them & very very happy with the service.

Hi All
Just need some advice please!
I want to make a small thermal insulated Roman Blind for my bathroom. The room is small and gets mighty steamy after the shower has been used, and I'm worried that any fabric will go mouldy pretty quick.
Does anyone have any recommendations/ideas for the best fabrics to use (for outer layer and for the thermal insulation) in these conditions?
THANKS EVERYONE!0 -

The blind company I use will not do Roman blinds for bathrooms as they said they will rot.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

Go to Homesick Texan and search for her biscuits recipe - buttermilk is the best and easily available in most supermarkets. The gravy is also nomnomnom. I feel qualified to endorse this because I am Texan:rotfl:.

I have 2 small windows in the bathroom and ended up having roller blinds made by a local company. They are showerproof, been in there for 9 years and although looking a bit tired now they are mould free. Might be worth looking in to.

What about making a blind from oilcloth, the kind used for kitchen tables, would that work?"Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0
