That thought occurred to me too, R-D, being older than many of the posters I usually have a good supply of everything in all the time but I didn't want to spoil their fun :o;). Mind you some of them sound like they're stocking up for a seige, or at the very least some dodgy tummies :rotfl:

Oh i also got DD a great fleece from a$da fo r £3 - its the size of her cotbed and i can put it under or over the quilt in the winter the bigger ones are too big to tuck under the CB and get bulky underneath - they also had some bigger normal fleeces in for £2.55 in red cream and brown so got a fe of them too!

rather airy here too and am refusing to put the heating on - noticed a big difference this morning, even rosie the robin was back this morning - had to look twice.
today i finished dehydrating the onions and jarring them up, bought powdered milk today to put away, another couple of bags of macaroni (!), the 6p vegetable stock cubes and ordered curtains for the other room, waiting on an order of butcher meat from donald russell,
plan for tomorrow is to get the winter coats, thick fleeces and all the cosy clothes out and get them washed and freshened up and all the throws and blankets done, pop into homebargains to see what they have in the way of candles ( shop just opened yesteday!! woohoo!)

rainy-days if its not a hard winter we'll be well off in march as we will not have to buy any shopping! but looking at the amount of rowans on the trees we're in for a belter.

Up here in Scotland its freezing, my outside thermometer reads between 9 and 10 degrees and my inside one reads 19 degrees, OH just opened the back door and I swear it was a big gush of cold air, He thinks its all in my head because im in winter mode. I nearly put on the CH the only thing stopping me is thought of the huge bills if i put on in August, still trying to hold off mid september but at this rate it will be on next week, anyone else thought put on CH yet or is it just in my head,

No chance mummytoo, my heating goes on at end of Oct and off at end off March. Brought up with and married into the forces and that's the way it's always been done. Us old 'uns are tough ;)

It doesnt matter if its a bad winter - its going to be a winter and I have not really been sensible in the past and have suffered. I mean I know its stupid but I have sat pathetically in my cold sitting room with cold ankles and thought @this is horrible, I'm miserable the only thing to do is go to bed'. Which is Ok for a week or so but not when the winter goes on and on! Doing the door curtain and lining the window one is just very sensible and if I dont have to do massive w/end shops for a while thats a real bonus as it will mean I can go straight home on a Friday snuggle up and not have to do anything in a sshivering miserable rush!! If nothing else I have found this thread tremendously supportive which to me as a single person with a fairly restricted social life has helped me to look forward to the inevitable long dark nights knowing i am not alone and across the country (and the pond) we are all facing it together. PLUS its been fab fun with you all sharing!!!

The rain has stopped and its still breezy outside. It poured all day. Fortunately we did not have any water in the basement or any tree limbs down. It supposed to be sunny tomorrow.

It has been quite cool and damp here today. This morning I baked a pan of brownies, and 4 large and 6 mini zucchini sweet breads. Dinner was roast pork, mashed, yellow summer squash and spinach for OH-- he does not like squash.

It was quite a quiet and relaxing day despite all the worry about the "big" storm:p

My heating went on 25th October for one hour last year then off again until the 8th November. Would have been on and off then until the cold spell finished. Am hoping to go at least the same this year as well.

:T I agree with all of the above :T

As I suffer with depression and very badly with SAD, this thread actually (almost) makes me look forward to winter... Its a cosy thread of warm people and just reading it takes the chill off and makes me feel warm inside :)
