Preparing for winter II

That thought occurred to me too, R-D, being older than many of the posters I usually have a good supply of everything in all the time but I didn't want to spoil their fun
. Mind you some of them sound like they're stocking up for a seige, or at the very least some dodgy tummies :rotfl:
Well, with the amount of loo roll some of them have been building up these last few days they should be alright in that department. It's either that or I'll be reading my name in the Daily Mail for causing a frenzy of panic buying on loo roll and some one got crushed by a falling mountain of the stuff when they opened their cupboard at home :rotfl:
I can just see the headlines now
Woman lost for two weeks under home made bog roll mountain!
Muriel Ponsonby has narrowly survived being crushed by her homemade toilet roll mountain after MSE contributors warned of a doom and gloom weather scenario this winter. Mrs Ponsonby alarmed at what could be lack of toilet roll told Police rescuers that she stocked up on the special offers so that she didn't get caught short! But what turned out to be a warning went beyond obsession and Mrs Ponsonby purchased enough lavatory roll to supply Buckingham Palace 100 times over. After stocking up on more loo roll she opened the storage cupboard door in her home only to be deluged with a falling moutain of packs of the rolls and was partially buried underneath it. She was rescued after a neighbour heard her cries for help! :rotfl:

Can't remember if they've been mentioned before but I swear by a bodywarmer. I got this down one http://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-down-gilet-ladies-448061 and it was a godsend. It makes such a difference having an extra layer plus it really warms your back.0

No chance mummytoo, my heating goes on at end of Oct and off at end off March. Brought up with and married into the forces and that's the way it's always been done. Us old 'uns are tough
I was thinking more like the end of November/early December:eek:
Heating is always off by mid March, with the kids in school all day now and myself in uni p/t I'm hoping that Ill not have to put the heat on as much as we wont be in
Last year we moved the mattress off my bed and the kids and I slept down stairs with the living room door closed from Christmas until end of Jan, only heating the ground floor, we are very fortunate to have a down stairs loo so apart from showering, we never had to go upstairs
I hope that we don't get any frost for awhile yet as my tomatoes are still green and because I was late planting my peas they are coming to flower now, oh well, if there is Ill just have to get the fleece out for them :j
I ordered the thermal blinds that were posted on here a few days ago, the ones for £2.99, the boys will probably want to sleep in their beds this year so they will be for their rooms, going to try and rig them up so they are inside the lintel rather than like a curtain like how it was displayed on the picture.
I also need to stuff some insulation behind my kitchen cupboards as there is an awful draft, it makes the room feel sooo cold which isn't good.0 -
I remember the last winter at my old house which was very cold and very poorly maintained (thanks to a half-soaked local council), where I slept downstairs which was the only gas fire in the house and had the dog and cat to keep me company. The kitchen and downstiars loo were like walking into a freezer! The bathroom also downstairs was warm due to a good fan heater in there! I only went upstairs just to get clothes!
My heating won't be on until the two gas fires have been checked out which won't be until I come back from Spain holiday at the end of October.0 -
Hi everyone, I've enjoyed reading your posts, you all sound like lovely people but you are terrifying me now. Lol!
Our house is cold even when it's boiling outside, we're all electric and have no CH. I can see us sitting around a candle if ever the electric goes off.
We've been putting canned goods away because they won't need cooking and always buy plenty of UHT milk to last us.
Only trouble is, DH won't be convinced it's going to be a bad winter. Men are so pigheaded!S.P.C. 9 2016 No. 062 Banked £337.50

It may not be and he could be right.
4 cold winters on the trot is unusual but it has happened a few times over the last 100 years.
Here in my bit of London we had snow for the last 2 years, before that didn't see any for 12 years, but 'up north' will have had colder and more snow than us in the 12 mild winters, so not mild for them. Such a large variation of weather on a small island.
What ever sort of winter we have it will be colder than the summer so sensible preparations are prudent;)
even, if like me you live in a town, still won't want to be going out on cold wet days if your feeling unwell, never mind snow and ice.
Any anything that keeps the cost of heating a home down is well worth the time, none of us have money literately to burn to keep warm, especially if it turns out to be another long drawn out cold one.0
