I suppose i should stock up on pups food, we get 17kg of working dog food for £9, a bag lasts him about 2.5 months, as he gets left overs too, not sure where to store it so it's safe from mice though, we have a big lock up in our garden, but not alot of storage space in our house.
The rabbit needs thinking about too, she is mostly fed on off cuts of fruit and veg and pickings from the garden at the moment, but will need to get her some hay and dried pellets to see her through the cold weather too. good job she's indoors so will be fairly toasty.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Pinkmami - thank you, would never have thought of safety pins!0

Jealous making time (sorry) my lovely neighbour has just come round with 6lbs of cooking apples and 3 lbs of plums! I am a lucky girl!! And I have frozen 2 lbs of my own runners in single portions today too!
Any one know any good plum cheese and plum jam recipes?
Bramble - my friends used to keep their dog food in plastic dustins with the screw on lids - good against mice but not so brill if there might be rattus rattus around (and with a cold winter in the country they seem to appear quite close if you are in the country)debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -
Well it certainly is getting colder isn't it,I walked over to Mr M's earlier and it felt like the end of sept/early october weather!
So this weekend I have,
stocked up on wholemeal pasta (10 packets at 22p ,seen on grabbit board)
ordered some craghopper fleece pants (14.99)
ordered some thermal drop down curtains (2.99)
Bought 6 loo rolls (1.19)
We have a cat flat which is no longer in use but blows a hooley through it so bought 2 vent covers that close and stuffed the inside with tesco carier bags (4.95 each)
Bought a 13.5tog quilt for LOs bed (3.99 Mr Ms)
Put DDs 9.5tog quilt on her bed (bought it for a fiver in tj hughes) ..her room is at top of house and is normally very warm
Tidyed and cleaned my bedroom ready to start putting thick quilt on etc
Drank most of my supplies of hot lemon as feel dire ;-) so need to restock them!0 -

I had toyed with the idea of a plastic dustbin, it would be better than just the plastic bag the food comes in at least!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

We had a plastic bin in the garage with some fishing things in that DH uses for bait - powdered milk and other stuff too. That got chewed into and it was really heavy duty plastic too!
These days i shove a sack in the corner of the spare room, one of those under the bed type of plastic lidded containers would do the job too then it can be pushed under the bed and out of the way.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

That would be rats then! Rats can chew through virtually anything. When I lived in a rented house in London we had a rat problem. Any possible tiny little entry they could possibly get into the house through had to be filled with cement - which had ground glass in it :eek:0 -

I would love to go on a retreat. Preferably a silent one for a couple of weeks. I've seen a couple of programmes where people have gone on retreat and been envious. One group of women went to an order of nuns, and the most recent one I saw was last year. The trouble is that retreats are just so expensive. I'm an atheist, but I need the batteries recharged without having constant demands made on me.0 -
If you have space, an old defunct chest freezer or fridge laid on it's back are great for storing dried goods. I used to use the chest freezer for storing my hen's grain in, they are definately rat proof."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0

I use a metal dustbin - it's a lot cheaper than the feed bins you can buy from agricultural supply stores. A 15-kilo sack of dog feed fills up a standard bin with a bit of space on top, so I think you could get a 17kg bag in, just. A metal bin in your lock up should be safe. If you're trying to store several bags at once, feed bins are good but expensive!0
