Does anyone know where I can get some decent boot socks? I really suffer with cold feet and its limits how long i can spend down at the allotment!Hi there, fellow allotmenteer here. I wondered if you could make your feet more comfy by using thermal insoles in your boots? I know people who are outside in the cold all day eg market traders, who swear by these. I even see them in the poundstores from time to time. It could give you an extra layer of insulation from the cold ground. HTH.

Hiya
whats does draft excluder tape do (i know excludes drafts but how)? does it come off easily? is it for double glazed windows/doors?
Thanks0 -
Hello you lovely bunch of wintering preppers.
I have ordered my flannelette sheets from John Lewis today and they are delivering them to me. They have them on special offer at the moment and they should be with me in the next five days. They are out of stock on the website for the Kig Size, but Milton Keynes has them in stock. Bonus is I don't have ot drive there to get them so I have saved on petrol and parking tooWe are now complete with the sheets. It's just the potatoes and the butchers that we need to do, then we are done and dusted.
I have cleaned the brass this afternoon which although technically is not a winter preparing job, it was on my list of things to be done around the house as I want everything clean and sparkling for when it does turn. For those who have horses, they know that winter begins the hard work and you don't want to be doing mundane things when you are dealing with them.

Butterfly, I only said on the page before this that I had finished! And what do you do? Put a link to the nicest fleece I have seen. Now I've had to buy one, and also got one for DD to save for Christmas. It looks gorgeous, but you have to stop tempting me now or I'll be destitute.0

you stick it on the gap between the opening windows to keep draughts out.. if you look at your windows they probaby have a rubbery or foam type tape along the edges which is squashed when you close the window to form a seal.. this is to replace the old withered and perished stuff or to put some where there previously is none.. and it is a beast to get off which is what you need.. you dont want it falling off every time you open the window!
it goes on any door or window.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
That's really cheap
. How big is your coal bunker, and would 1 tonne keep you going all winter?
The coal bunker holds 8 bags, but the coalman just delivers as I need so I usually have 8 delivered then have the remaining 12 split into 3 deliveries once the bumker is below half each time.
This amount is supplimented with 1 tonne of logs which will cost approx £80 and then we have oil for the hot water and other times. The coal fire is only lit when we are at home and keeps the downstairs toasty
We also use approx £600 worth of oil over the course of a year.
Everything else is run on electricity.
Our bills for the all above are approx £130 per month or £30 per week.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0
