People generally are saying they are noticing a change in the weather and nearly everybody I have spoken to have said that it is like Autumn. Our friends drive the big lorries for a living (you know the big massive articulated lorries pulling the 40ft trailers). They work night shifts and they have both said it is so noticeable how chilly it is in the mornings from previous summers.
Just a tip in case none of you have done it - wash your dusters out and get them dry. They dry in no time anyway. I wash mine as I go along, usually in the water of something that I have hand washed to make it more economical.
I have found one of my old but beautiful wine red coloured dressing gowns that I bought in a sale years ago from Next. It is so lovely ad cosy warm. I have it in the washing machine as I type because I want to freshen it up. It is velour like on the outside which makes it really plush.
Could be although I know our B & M's and HB haven't had deicer in over the summer as DH thought I was nuts as I kept on looking-lol
I'm planning on digging out fleecy pj's and thick dressing gowns and washing them when we have another good day:)0 -
Hello everyone!
Warm (ha ha ha get it, warm!) welcome to Kathy!
We went to Silverstone today and the weather was crazy, it was absolutely freezing and raining one minute then roasting the next:(!
I leave for work at 6.30am and yes I have to agree it is decidedly nippy now, infact I am not convinced that there wasnt the slightest residue of a very light frost on my windscreen the other morning:eek:. 2 Friends also said the same without me mentioning it so I dont think I am going nuts!
I dont think we do have the same regulations about fire proofing pyjamas, some I got Pip from Primarni say keep away from fire on them.Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T
2020 the year of less - Less debt, less waste, less spending, less stuff, less stress!0 -
DH went up town today so his mission was to visit the pound shops and buy deicer. There was none to be had:( We later visited Asda on our travels and I bought the only can in stock. Cost £1.50 but does mean I've now got 2 spray cans and 6 trigger sprays of it in the garage. No scrapers around anywhere either so I just think our stores aren't stocking any winter car things yet. .
Or too many people have been reading this thread and beat him to it :eek:0 -
Hi everyone.
Hubby and i sorted the entire loft today.
He is going to go and do a carboot tomorrow (i was going to go but i have loads to do)
so whilst he is out i am going to make some soups up and go through the freezers and cupboards and write a list of all we have and see how many meals i can come up with as desperately saving for holiday and dentist now.
Also the biggest drain on our expenses......... we are quitting smoking tomorrow - i pray to god this time we manage it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone recommended the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, i read one and then got addicted and i have now read 3 and starting 4th tonight but i wondered are there any other similar "old style" books that come recommended- ones that detail the way life was just like those im reading?Everything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
LOL Prudent!
Me and the kids have got pjs and also the baby's foot cosy for the pushchair that say in big red capitals 'keep away from fire'.
Flannelette bedding...is good quality the non fluffy type then? I've got 2 different sets...one is really fluffy (loads came off in drier) and one which seems quite rough and flat (and says not to tumble dry). I was assuming the fluffy ones were the better quality as they seem thicker and cosier than the rough flat ones! And why does one say not to tumble dry anyone...they're both 100% cotton!?0 -
Pips Mum I completely agree. I was thinking last night how annoying it is that I put the kids to bed in short pjs and they're complaining they're boiling then overnight we're all blinking freezing!0

Just found this thread!
Thanks for reminding me I wanted to re-start the boiler cover
Also are the ice grippers for shoes cheapest at QVC? Also do they work and really stop you slipping? I need 6 pairs..5 for us and 1 for mum who was house bound the last 2years as totally frightened of the ice..I also fell and broke my fingers so would like to avoid that this year lol0 -

I've got a single skin wall utility room (washing machine, drier and freezer out there) which links straight on to our cavity wall kitchen. The floor of both rooms is tiled and the only thing to block off the utilty room from the kitchen is a rubbish wood bi-fold door. In the utility room there is a upvc outside door and a small window (ideally I want to get a upvc to block off utility room from kitchen but at the mo I can't afford that).
I'm planning to put up a curtain in the kitchen in front of the bi-fold door and get a rug for kitchen floor. But don't know if it'd be worth putting curtains up on door and window in utility room...? And was wondering if I've missed something else I could do...?
...would also adding a shower pole and curtain on the other side of the bi-fold door be OTT?0 -
Just been looking for warm bedding and saw the tesco website has velvet bed throws from £40 to £10. They look quite thick.
The link is:

I won't be ordering as they are dark colours and my white cat like to lie on my bed. . .0 -
Hello Everyone
Been a while since I posted on here properly, but I am starting to really get worried about the winter coming as it is only August and at night our house is really cold already. Just gone online too to check my gas/elec statement and we have money to pay to it instead of the planned buffer we thought we were building up over the summer .
I have had a look through all our things and in the main we are well prepared with outdoor clothes, hot water bottles and snuggly blankets. However we still have a lot to do as we need the following:- Pj's for me and DD
- Top up medicine cabinet
- Curtains - Dining room, bedroom, living room and hall
- Car first aid kit and shovel
- Jumpers for me
- Build up store cupboard
- Bottled water - our water kept cutting off last year
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
