I knew this year would be a real struggle and i am grateful for so much but i do feel like the bad weather is cropping up so quickly and im not on top of it as much as i would like.
sorry for the rant.
Sorry to hear, it seems a lot of pressure on familys sometimes on Xmas day, to avoid the driving could they not stay over on xmas day so you can relax and perhaps go for that nice dog walk. Perhaps explain to them that this is how the day is going to plan out and do what you want to do for a change.
Xmas is a time for sharing and giving and it has to work both ways. Sounds like you are dreading it which is a shame really. SUrely there is a way around it.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

I have a lot on my list but the next major one is solving how to get a curtain up behind my front door. I've read there are things such as draper arms to fit on the door - i don't have enough room at the top of the door to fit a pole so I think it's my only choice? I have a curtain but it's heavy. Can anyone advise if the pole on the door goes by any other name or can recommend what they did get a curtain to block out the wind from the door?

Evening all.....can anyone tell me where I can get some deicer? I've checked B&Q and Homebase so far. They've got it in Asda but I'm currently refusing to pay £1.50 for a small spray bottle  ThanksAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0

Okay, been on these forums for a while, but only really into the bug this year so I have a lot of ground to make up for in the preparing for winter side of life.
So after reading so many recommendations, there's no way I can afford all the suggestions this year so was wondering what are the essentials:
Firstly a little synopsis: I live in a 1870's 2 bed semi, single walls, gas central heating, no double glazing (and I pay a whole lot more in heating costs than my dad in a 1930's semi). I live with my hubby and 2 kids. Heating in all rooms, except downstairs loo and landing which are both exceptionally cold. Last year we tried the old insulated window thing but it ended up peeling off and I had terrible condensation/ mould in the rooms and walls. We also have a large chimney in the lounge area (currently blocked by a birds nest) which has an open gas fire in (i.e you switch on the gas and light it with a match, not used in years due to cost)
So this year I'm going to be more savvy this winter and am thinking (although I have more than £100 to spend, albeight not much more) what would you invest in if you only had £100 to spend?0 -
just a little tip at the mo ... dont buy expensive thermal leggings - the thicker leggings from such places as primark or peacocks are alot cheaper ... stay warm guys x x0

Two years ago I bought a set of thermals (top and leggings) at Aldi for around £7 and they are still going strong. Check if you have an Aldi near as they are really good stuff. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

Carolyntia I was in Poundland this morning and they had big cans for - you guessed it - £1!
I have an open plan staircase in my lounge, the 16m roll of heavy curtaining I won on ebay will be tacked up to make a 'wall' against the banister to save some heat from disappearing upstairs.
Scoured the shops today and seems everyone must be bulk buying the cheapy fleeces, cheapest I saw was £6.50. Not paying that! Will camp outside the shops until the new delivery arrives if I have to0 -
I participate on a weather forum and theres a post on there at the moment about winter: Many people following the same trend for a very bad winter:
artfularshavin..forecast for the months ahead!..
SEPTEMBER...a mixed month generally, with some dry and long sunny spells, mixed betwen showers and longer spells of rain.although it will be drier more often then not.temperatures wil be below average, particuarly towards the end of month.12-15 c
OCTOBER...wil start on quite a wet and windy note, particuarly in the west and north.and southwest.the south and east will be somewhat drier and brighter, still with showers here!..as we move through the month, from say the 15th-20th,high pressure will become dominant, and settle the weather down, into cool sunny days and nights.with just isolated showers about.frosts will become a feature. a cool end to the month!
NOVEMBER...a cool to cold start, with the same theme, frosts and fog..too dominate,so therefore plenty of dry weather around and quite pleasent with the HIGH sitting mainly rite over the uk.i then expect a slight change mid month, with the high moving into a west northwest position, and quite a keen wind form the north or northeast blowing down.this will eventually bring down snow showers to the north of england scotland..and eventually down the eastern side. it will be a cold month, temps well below average..6-7 in the south..2-5 in the north!
DECEMBER..chilly,at the very least with some hard to severe overnight frosts becoming quite common.snow will also.be a feature, particualry in the east, where accumalations well maybe become deep as the month progresses.i see quite a dismal month,in terms of temperatures, cold too rather cold throughout not much respite from the north and also from the east..again a very much below average month, with some sever spells of weather setting in,especially from mid month onwards! average temps..2-4 in south...1-3 in north!
JANUARY...a very cold january looks on the cards to me!..quite possibly a severe month to extreme..with consistant east to northeasterly winds, plenty of snow again..mainly in the east and north.with scotland especially seeing lots of the white stuff!..this will be the coldest month seen for many years in the uk i feel,a rather depressing month,i see people not being able to get out and do much things, too much snow and ice will be a hazard. a freezing january.is looking quite possible to me...temps..0-2 in the south...-3-1 in the north!! oh dear
so overall then too sum it up:
SEPTEMBER..just below average temps.
OCTOBER..just below,to below average temps.
NOVEMBER..at least 2c below average temps..brrr!
DECEMBER..much colder then average temps.
JANUARY..very cold throughout..freezing temps..If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

I don't get the temperature predictions? For Jan it say "... coldest month seen for many years in the UK.." but then states "-3-1" in the north - that's way higher than the normal temp up here! (if it stays at that, I'll be happy - was reg -12 to -14 here last year).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
