  • This is turning into a very expensive project! I've got my door curtain up, bought socks, wellies, fleeces, stocked tins, dry goods, throws and nonslip sheets for cold leather settee and chairs, flannelette bedding (had to get 2 sets coz of the kids tendancy to puke/pee on the sheets), also got extra nappy pins to hold fleece onto curtains (save me some sewing).

Thanks for all the handy tips and links! :)

    :) Good morning all.

I was stitching together two of those silver car windscreen sunshades from Poundland last night to make an insulating carpet for my tent and was astonished at how very warm they were, stretched over my legs as I worked.

Which made me think that the could do duty as liners of a blind/ underlay for a rug/ anything that needs something thin and draughtproof, really.
    .;)

I was in £land yesterday and saw them, cross now that I didn't get some to go behind the radiators. Now on my list for the next shopping trip

Congratulations dom, in true OS style you'll have your own internal central heating system for the winter! ;)
  • i am now thinking ive got the main expensive bits bought and the rest can be spread out over the next couple of months. i bought the curtains in ikea, i didnt get the purple ones i wanted as they looked disgusting, more brown than purple so i got some nice bright red ones instead. so my hall decor is now going to be red, so its just a shame that i have purple lightshades but thats nothing at the end of the day and they can stay till the hall gets properly decorated.

Oh and i think i deserve a medal! i didnt go into costco or the metro centre whilst i was up at ikea! and thats just not like me at all, so i even saved some cash :)

buy wind up torch/phone charger - not escential really
curtains for bathroom windows? - not sure, will discuss with mum when she is up
sort out car kit (de-icer, scraper, spare wipers, washer fluid, cash, phone, charger, blanket, shovel & brush)
    get gas fire safety checked
tomato soup (i go through buckets of the stuff)
uht milk - buy in bulk from costco, but only had stuff dated dec 11 so will wait another month or 2
    diluting juice
    rice

extras that ive thought of after reading more of other peoples prep
    more cat litter
    de-icer in bulk
    screenwash in bulk

Just had an email from Amazon - lots of their walking boots are reduced, including some wellies. Just ordered a pair of lightweight walking shoes as I live in them most of the year.

Thanks JKS - I haven't had a pair of hiking boots in years but remember how comfy and practical they were in bad weather - They are a fab price altho I was disappointed that the ones with the red detail on them were £10 more  I have placed my order for the plain grey ones at £25!!... I think I can live without the red detail :D

    Bargain :money:

    TY :)

Anyone remember that last year I didn't want to spend out on expanding foam so I plugged a gap in the wall where my WM pipe came out... I used papier mache from newspaper and the kids PVA glue....

Still going strong one year later :D

OK, strike one. Don't all rush out to buy the lantern from B & M's to use instead of putting lights on. It's carp:o Will do as an emergency light but that's it. DH was :rotfl:when he saw me trying to make a brew with the light from it:(

I have just been to b&Ms and was disappointed I couldn't find one. Now a happy bunny thank you :D

just a little tip at the mo ... dont buy expensive thermal leggings - the thicker leggings from such places as primark or peacocks are alot cheaper ... stay warm guys x x

i find that leggings made of about 95% viscose and 5% elastane are very very warm and thin enough to be worn under other clothes, they also tend to be cheaper than thermals, and often on sale

basically any blend that is mainly vicose with a touch of elastane to be stretchy will work. this is particularly good for big girls like me as i can't even touch thermals on most sites they don't come in my size so this works for the bottom half of me at least ;)
