I've got to say THANK YOU! To everyone who has written something on this thread. I accidently came accross this and ever since Ii read it i have gone full force into prep mode and after a day like today - constant rain and cold I feel sooo relieved i've read all everyone had to contribute. I have my very own list now and today I made a draaft excluder for my front door out of an old dressing gown and stuffed it with old baby clothes and I bought a new cat flap - old one let in wind and rain as was broken!
I have a lot on my list but the next major one is solving how to get a curtain up behind my front door. I've read there are things such as draper arms to fit on the door - i don't have enough room at the top of the door to fit a pole so I think it's my only choice? I have a curtain but it's heavy. Can anyone advise if the pole on the door goes by any other name or can recommend what they did get a curtain to block out the wind from the door?0 -
OK, strike one. Don't all rush out to buy the lantern from B & M's to use instead of putting lights on. It's carp:o Will do as an emergency light but that's it. DH was :rotfl:when he saw me trying to make a brew with the light from it:(0

Firstly, thank you to everyone for the excellent advice - so many things that I've never thought about and now have a bit of a list to start over the next few weeks
Secondly, does anyone have any advice about buying thermal underwear? I suppose one of my main questions is does size matter? I am currently losing weight and don't know whether to get my current size or go for something smaller? I am the type of person that goes out during the summer and takes jumpers, scarves and gloves with me in case the temperature drops a degree or twoso am as keen as anything to stop myself from being a complete ice box over winter like I am usually (there is of course the hope this year that letting agents/gas check agents don't decide to turn our heating off in the middle of winter for a week or that we don't get a power cut which means we have no heating because the wiring isn't done properly :rotfl:).
Any advice is gratefully appreciated :j0 -
OK, this is probably a silly question but we're all double glazed with gas ch. Does having a winter door curtain really make a difference.
Thanks
ill find out this time round.. although my doors are DG now still are drafty...

Well, I finally gave in and bought a vulcan stove fan. Tonight I have lit Steve and the fan is sat on top going like the clappers!!! Lets hope it heats the kitchen from it.0

This afternoon when I got home from work it was quite chilly I even thought it was cool in the house enough to put the heating on but resisted totally and put a thicker cardigan on. It has warmed up a bit now. I suppose this the start of autumn though!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money

I find thermal undies are usually really stretchy so I'd say get the smaller size. Mind you, on the ones I got last year the legs were really short and the body bit on the bottoms came up way past my waist so all in all they were a bit of a strange shape!0 -

Mmm, sometimes thermal stuff can really shrink. I got Campri Thermals from Sports Direct a couple of years ago that didn't though. I've since lost weight so just wore them big last year. Looked very attractive not:rotfl:but I didn't care as they kept me warm.
BTW Sports Direct have them showing online http://www.sportsdirect.com/campri-thermal-pants-ladies-404007?colcode=40400703 Have never bought from them online though only in store.0
