Just ordered two ditsy floral flannelette flat sheets and two ditsy floral flannelette fitted sheets for single beds from Littlewoods for £10.50 the lot.

Just seen this £6.50 for the double. Just blue and yellow colours left, but that suits me fine. Not sure what colours are left in the other sizes. Reviews look good, thanks for the heads up :)

Just ordered two ditsy floral flannelette flat sheets and two ditsy floral flannelette fitted sheets for single beds from Littlewoods for £10.50 the lot. They also have some plain coloured 'lace' ones from around £4. Might be worth a quick shuftie if anyone needs any nice warm sheets for winter but they're selling fast (on bogof).

    Dont forget TCB
Thanks for this, I've just ordered 2x double and 2x single flat sheets for £12.50. Bargain!

The thing with insulation is that it's designed to keep heat in, so that assumes you can generate enough heat in the first place. My house is frequently (now for example) massively colder than outside, and back in the winter was often around 7-8 degrees - it's amazing how you get used to it. However it's a miserable way to live.

Last year I had a coal/log fire, electric convector heaters etc and could heat one room ok, but as soon as I went to the loo, or up to bed - god the air (and toilet seat!!!) was cold!!

I'm thinking that the open fire probably loses as much heat as it produces really, and wonder if anyone has any ideas for ways to persuade it to throw the heat forward at me, rather than straight up the chimney. Has anyone seen any sort of gizmo that could be fitted to do this? Or any other ideas to make it work more efficiently really.

I'm in rented so sadly a stove would be perfect but out of the question - unless someone knows better!!! Thanks

Thanks, yes there was a discussion a few days ago about these fans, I can't see how they could work with an open fire though. I was thinking more of something physical to put at the back of the fire to throw the heat forward. Not sure how, I might experiment with some firebricks.

    Thanks

Here is a long range forecast for winter 11/12. I'm not able to post links so just copy and remove the spaces:). Looks like it's going to be another cold one.

Oh goodness, that does'nt look good does it .
I had'nt even thought about winter this year to be honest however I'm going to get started straight away after reading that.
I'm dreading another cold winter especially if its going to be even worse than last year.

Well i`m very pleased this morning :p

My new winter walking boots have arrived and TBH i was a bit unsure about ordering boots online as i usually like to try them on first, i checked the size on my old ones and ordered the same size and they are perfect.

They are leather uppers with lots of lovely padding and a thick chunky sole for good grip and to keep my tootsies all snug. These are the ones http://www.sportsdirect.com/campri-leather-boots-ladies-275251 I wandered about in them yesterday indoors to make double sure that they were ok and didn`t rub my feet but i needn`t have worried at all. I`ve already recommended them to some peeps at work.

I`ve been to the pound shop this morning and bought two of the shelters and 2 of the emergency blankets and a couple of other bits and bobs, now that i have the masking tape i can carry on with the window frame upstairs so all my little jobs are going according to plan. I shall tack some more heading tape onto one of the fleece blankets later ready to line the next set of curtains. :D

The weather here is very changeable atm, hot and sunny one minute and cold breezy and chucking it down the next, not much of a summer at all so it feels really good to be preparing for the colder months.

Think sports direct will be wodering whats going on with the surge in sales on winterwear haha.

How do you line the curtains? I sewed mine into the actual curtain and let them drop naturally with the curtain, it looks ok and you cant see any of the stitches thank god. I have a huge list of jobs to do, going to post it online later as usually motivates me. We have an awful windy cold day here today so perfect opertunity for me to check for draughts and fill the gaps

Hi Eliza, go to your local fireplace showroom, coal merchant place and ask for coal savers, these are fire bricks that fit into the fire place and hold the heat, they cut down the ammount of coal/wood you need to fill your fireplace and they really help send out the heat.
