I've been knitting nice warm socks, they work out more expensive than bought ones but are much warmer and last much longer. Also nicer colours and patterns. I have an hour long journey each way to work and a knitting sock is small enough to carry with me.

Have a lot of wool at home so may start on a few hats and scarf sets too.

How do you line the curtains? I sewed mine into the actual curtain and let them drop naturally with the curtain, it looks ok and you cant see any of the stitches thank god. I have a huge list of jobs to do, going to post it online later as usually mo

I tack a single line of header tape onto the fleece and put curtain hooks along it and then i take down the curtain and turn it so that the right side is face down, the hooks on the fleece then just hook along the tape thats already on the back of the curtains. Really quick and easy and they can be taken off after the colder months and stashed ready for the following year. Last year was the first time that i did this and its great. I put a thermometer behind the curtains and the difference between that and the rest of the room was something really daft like 7 degrees

It isn`t my idea though - i read it on here somewhere about a year ago and its just one of those things that you can`t believe you didn`t think of :D

seven degrees! My god, no wonder my living room was warmer with lined curtains last winter, compared to voile the year before hmmm.

This afternoon was a bit bored so took the opportunity to sort through my preparations for winter. Got a huge storage shelf at the top of my tank cupboard, so in it i put all my fleece blankets, electric blanket, winter bedding, tissues, candles, torches, winterwear, slippers etc. So its all nicely stored where i can find it. We have a shoe rack in there too, so will put all our wellies on that whiles i know where they are.

I also cut down the emergency tent (made from thermal foil used to treat hypothermia) into three huge blankets, folded them neatly into self seal sarnie bags and they are ready to go into emergency car box. Will also be putting bottled water, fleece blankets, old hats and gloves, deicer, ice scraper, copy of my breakdown agreement, some cereal bars, hand warmers and self heating warm drinks in too.

I picked up a fleece blanket from Mr T today for £3. They had red and black in my local store, all tied up with a colour-coordinated ribbon, so I now have a red one and a black one. The red one is in my car, I'm hoping to try and get DH to put the black one in his, but I doubt he will. He'll see it as extra weight, I think. Still, it's in the cupboard in case I need it. My secondary pantry cupboard (just a teeny one near the oven) is now cleared out so I can store a couple of extra tins out of the way in case of emergencies. I wanted some tins of things like steak or chicken pie filling, but they're really expensive! I guess that's the price of convenience (or emergency power cut food) though!

Christmas plans are well underway, and I'm starting to think I ought to starting planning Christmas food too. My winter plans have kind of stalled (only because there isn't much left to do) I do read everyone's posts though and lurk. :)

There's fleeces for £1.99 at argos on the grabbit board.

Got some goodies delivered from Mountain Warehouse today. Double fleece hats for DH and DS's, walking shoes for DH (most comfortable fits he finds), t-shirt for me and lovely snow jacket thick and warm for DD. At least she'll be dry and snug this winter!

Flannelette sheets from littlewoods have also arrived (very quick) but have not had the chance to open and check yet.
