Thanks for the link Cinny91. Gulp, I must admit that I was thinking of something smaller, more like a big sleeping bag, but there's loads of material there for £1. As the OP said I'm sure that we can come up with loads of ideas for using them.
How about those people who struggled with frozen washing machines in outhouses last year? Would they be any good to keep things covered up in garages etc? ...
Those of you struggling to afford new curtains, you are keeping an eye on the charity shops aren't you? I can't resist buying if I see nice lined ones. Even as a temporary measure they might be useful and only cost about £2 to £4 a pair in our local charity shops.
The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Here is a long range forecast for winter 11/12. I'm not able to post links so just copy and remove the spaces:). Looks like it's going to be another cold one.

Well we are getting there slowly with our preparations.
The door door curtains are now hung.
Ive ordered my foil blankets for the radiators off ebay and they came today.
I finally got round to ordering the winter essentials from sports direct. I got a ski jacket for me (LOL) i get cold and i like the fact its got pockets which will come in handy when walking the dogs. Hubby just wanted waterproof jacket. Both got gloves, i got hat and we both got new shoes - the walking trainer/boot kind for all terrains. I have been desperate for new shoes for a while now and with hubby going to be walking to and from work everyday we figured it best to get some with good grips for all weathers.
I also got hubbys birthday presents sorted using £20 voucher i got from lovefilm for amazon :)
Im awaiting my christmas present bargains to be delivered then its only hubby left to get for for christmas. But we will have about £100 shop and scan vouchers by then so it wont technically cost anything.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww ive just looked over and one of the dogs is lying on his back legs in the air snoring his head off!

oh and i brought flanelette duvet covers and sheets from very (paid not credit) they were BOGOF so 2 sets for £29 including 2 sheets. They arent exactly the colour id normally go for but the cheapest i could find and im ok with that lol.

    We still have to:
change the blind in the kitchen
fill the crack in the bay window
attatch draught excluder to front door
    repair & clean gutters
    have hob repaired
    service boiler
    insulate loft
put the blinds up in the bedrooms
make the guinea pig hutch winter covers
buy socks for me and hubby
but jumpers for me and hubby
    pjs for me
    slippers for me

i think thats all thats left :S
Everything is always better after a cup of tea

Primark has a sale on winter socks at the moment. They have 3 packs of ribbed socks, 2 packs of thermal socks or 1 pair of thermal boot socks all reduced to a pound. I was in the one in Irvine, they are in a basket near the door on the main aisle.

I was looking at thermal blinds but it will cost £50+ and I wondered if I could do something with the existing one? It is not sturdy enough to attach thick material so I was wondering about reflective paint or tape or something...has anyone any ideas? thanks :)

Have you looked in B&M or Poundstretcher. They sell thermal blackout roller blinds quite cheap. A 6ft one costs about £18.

Just ordered two ditsy floral flannelette flat sheets and two ditsy floral flannelette fitted sheets for single beds from Littlewoods for £10.50 the lot. They also have some plain coloured 'lace' ones from around £4. Might be worth a quick shuftie if anyone needs any nice warm sheets for winter but they're selling fast (on bogof).

Oh heck there is a lilme without a line, that's going to be confuzzling. Anyway for some reason I'm thinking of winter earlier than I did last year, probably because we're on rearranging the shed and I'm thinking - stock pile and second freezer. Or is it the huge gas and electric bills we had? Anyway as we rent a wooden stove isn't possible indoors, bit of a bummer as I could probably get free heat supplies but I am planning on saving on energy.

While sorting out I found some extra bags of grit salt. We now have 3 4x4s including one which is prepared for 'off road' use so he should be perfect for the winter. I'm going to try to pick up some cheap blankets and in car stuff we need before the snow comes/it is snow prices!!
One day I might be more organised...........
