Is it sad that i got all excited when i walked into the new cheapy store yesterday? Its called Family Bargains and looks good. Got a bit of everything, although man in the car park was trying to get £3 off everyone - car park was empty but next doors car park extremely full! Anyway will be looking for winter stuff here to stock up

  • Now the sun looks like it is going to stay a while, I am going to wash all my jumpers and dry them and pack them in the suitcase under the bed in a bag ready for winter, same applies to pillows and the thick overquilt I have for the bed. Might as well get the washing dried for free while the suns up!

anyone know of a good way to insulate the letterbox cheaply? I have a flap and curtains but it does rattle when the wind is up!

I bought a car wash sponge recently especially for this purpose, 2 for £1 in A*da. We've an aluminium door and the sponge fits a treat between the two flaps. No more rattles in the night, though the postman will probably think we're bonkers if I don't remove it before he delivers.

some one keeps breaking the brushy thing in our letterbox ( kids think its the postman )so if its really windy or cold i stuff it with newspaper or a scrunched up recycling sack and when the post comes it just falls out no problem it does help keep the cold out i do like the idea of the sponge will try this as well

I picked up another box of household candles from Wilkos to go in the cupboard for emergencies. There hasn't been a lot for me to do lately as I'm almost on top of it - for the time being! I would like to get a few more things done and also work on some preserves for the storecupboard or freezer. I've never tried my hand at preserving so it'll be a life lesson. Must check out the preserver's year thread.

BTW, loving the sponge idea too - thanks for it. :)

I've had my delivery from Sports Direct of our hats and gloves - very pleased, but still need to get DS some gloves

Our letter box is completely sealed up as the draft was horrendous - I found a outdoor wall letterbox at the charity shop and put that up, sealing the letter box has made a huge difference

I use a big flap of bubble wrap sellotaped to the inside of the door. I do one on the keyhole as well....looks ever so glam ( just kidding) but it's cheap and does the job.

You could add a few cedar balls to keep the moths away too.

Hiya, returning to this thread as it's now July and not too early, although I'm happy that most things were bought last year and stocks just need replenished!
Eliza and Wee pilsbury, there is a B&M thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2138145 and a Home Bargains one for those of you who don't know https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1075311 Well worth keeping an eye on as winter stocks arrive :)
Thinking that it's time to wash those heavy winter coats, scarves etc and get them dried while the sun shines! Am I the only one still in wincyette pyjamas? It's rarely too hot for me in this country! Hope that the sun is shining for you all today:j

those of you using sponges in your letterbox, asda sell the carwash ones at 17p each on offer atm.

I havent done much this week, going food shopping later so going to put money on my xmas savings card- will take me upto £50 saved. Need it to be £200 by December, got 10 coming to me for xmas dinner so need to prepare for that one financially!

I now have the fleece and sewing machine i need to line my bedroom curtains. Do i just tack it on the hem and sew? im tempted to sew in some velcro strips instead so they can be removed during the hotter months hmmm
Mummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas :D:xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2:
