I checked the stock in the shop nearest work and they had 5 left. My kitchen needs 5 to line the curtains ....

So now you've made me spend £10 and given me some work to do - again.

My kitchen is freezing in winter despite thermal backed curtains (which aren't nice, they don't hang well). I'm hoping another layer will help, and also help the curtains hang better.

    Thanks for the heads up.

Thank you! 3 left in my local store so I've reserved them. I'll use 1 pair to line the curtains in DS' room. Although its small & had a radiator seems pretty chilly in the winter. Easy enough to find another brown one to do the girls room.

Now then, how do I line them cos I've never done it before! Velcro tape - would that be strong enough?

Just be careful with the argos blankets, bought four, 2 where fab as they substituted with a pricier one, the other 2 where thin and more stretchy. Still good for snuggling but not the type you can line curtains with as they would stretch and mishape. The decent thick oens came in a square shape tied with ribbon, the not so good quality ones are slightly ribbed for some reason and came rolled up hmmmm. Still handy to have for blankets but im not sure for windows?

The Argos ones I picked up today were the square with ribbons variety, so hopefully they will do the job. (I've just checked them).

Thinking about it, when I picked them up the man said they were substitutes but I thought for £1.99 they'd come in for something. Have dog who likes fleeces.
  • got mine today, all i'm going to do is get sthg like this and put it just inside my regular curtains, mainly cos i'm not great at sewing, i'm going to create a loop of blanket (like you have on roman blinds but only for the top) and put 2 on each window (BIG windows!)

Newspaper and lighting sticks [kindling]. collect all summer, chop up bits of broken pallets, collect pine cones keep free newspapers. all valuable in the winter for fire lighting. milk cartons make good firelighters too.

bought winter boots whilst on holiday in blackpool, smart enough for work but thick rubber soles with a decent grip. I think the woman in the shop thought I was mad (25C and i was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt) buying boots! £10 for leather ladies boots in Shoemarket, they also had knee high fake leather boots for £1 if anyone is interested.

I had a wander round Boyes store yesterday and came across Dora the Explorer books rrp £4.99 selling for 99p and the little library boxed set of learn Spanish with Dora at 50p! They were around £5 three years ago when I bought self same set for my DGD! Got stocked up as will come in handy at Christmas for all the little ones I have to buy for!

I've made a haybox for cooking food. Will be investigating a clay oven next.
