I buy and collect a small bag of kindling a week now & don't even live at the place my wood burner is! We're renovating it so when the time comes I will have enough kindling & newspapers to keep me going for yrs! DH is is an avid newspaper reader & never throws them out. We often have too much so pass them on to the elderly in the village.0 -
Well i've set my gas and electric rates for ten months, but apart from that have done nothing in the way of prepping for winter (i've perfected the art of making lentil soup if that counts?)Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
Debt payments 2012 £433.270 -
I took advantage of the SportsDirect sale that others have mentioned here and had winter supplies of hats/scarves/gloves for me and OH, as well as new swim gear for this summer - all heaps cheaper than I've seen anywhere else. Turns out we have one in town that I could've visited to save on the postage  Must've opened recently as I had no idea it was there! Still saved a bomb though, so thanks to all who tipped.
So this means I can now go and buy a couple of their large golf type umbrellas - I was eyeing them up on the net and wondering whether they'd make it to my door in one piece... Has anybody else bought these? Will they hold up against a little wind? They're reduced £7.99 to £2.99 and claim to be 2 for a fiver so it seems a bargain.
By the way, great to see everybody's ideas for helping keep the bills down and the bodies warm this winter. Thank you!0 -

I made one a few years ago, couldn't get it to keep food hot enough for long enough to cook it.
Have you used yours?0 -

I have a dunlop one from there and its brilliant. I use it all the time when its raining, especially when I'm out working as its pretty good in the wind & hasn't blown inside out yet:j
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

We have a recently opened one too and i paid a visit armed with the list of things that i needed, i came away empty handed though as although the shop was packed with stuff all the things that i wanted were on the website.
My window recess will need one more coat of paint later today and then tomorrow i shall be able to get on with cutting all the slats to the right length, hopefully i`ll manage to get the whole blind finished soon but i don`t have a day off until next Friday so i`m trying to do bits and pieces as and when.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Our SportsDirect never has the goodies that are on the website either - I order online and pay postage as its still cheaper than buying in a shop
Bought curtain material to finish the windows in our room - just need to get wire to put them up

1st fair on 13/4/14 :j0 -
I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the haybox oldtractor - it's on my 'to do' list, but it keeps getting pushed down.0

I've made a haybox out of a laundry basket and some old sleeping bags. Works fine.
I will be living on the contents of my freezer during the autumn to get it emptied. This winter I will try turning the fridge/freezer off during the cold months. It doesn't make sense to have piles of snow outside, while inside, in a cold kitchen, you have a fridge running.0 -
