What are peoples opinions on Snow Boots? has anyone bought any?
I was thinking of buying a pair but they are quite pricey compared to a pair of wellies with thick socks..
Any advice greatly appriciated
I got a pair of long equestrian yard boots and they were fabulous over the winter, they were waterproof and fake fur lined so I didn't even need to wear think socks. Mine were from Derby House and were about £20 - 30Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
DH and I have a pair of moon boots each that are 24 years old and still going strongBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

been shopping today and picked up a few things. Managed to get a pack of two thermal socks for a £1 from poundshop, 100 tealight candles for £2 from wilkinsons, three thermal blinds to go on the windows i didnt cover up last year (crazy i know!), two hats for my DS, reduced to £1 each from £6 each. Also found lots of medicine in pounshop for winter ailments, beechams, lemsip cough medicine, cold and flu tablets (already got nasal inhilators, vix vapour rub, kids cough medicine so just need to stock up on the basics now.
Got tons to do to prepare:
* Put up the new blinds
* Line three sets of curtains
*make two door curtains
* sew any holes in winter socks and winter clothing
* make a survival box for the car, need to also check everything is topped up under the bonnet. This is my first car and first winter with one, i bought it new so dont even know how to do the antifreeze! It says its ready mixed so i presume i dont have to add water to it? Got some de-icer for 21p for a huge can on sale in netto a while back, need a screen scraper, a box with blankets, water, cereal bars, money, a copy of my details with roadside recovery firm, umbrella, sons raincover for pram incase we have to walk.
* Not sure if its worth stocking up on food, i had no problems buying food last year even at the worst in the snow.
*get some salt for paths
Already done:
*winter wear in a seperate box stored away for each of us
*washed and stored away hot water bottles and covers
*purchased a couple of door snakes
*arranged for the council to come and reseal out front door and add a new weather bar
*bought an electric blanket
*stocked up on candlesMummy of a beautiful little boy and fanatical about christmas:xmassmile:snow_laug:santa2:

3kg bags of dishwasher salt are £1.43 in Mr A - I know this despite not having a dishwasher as I managed to pick up 2 from the clearance section for 95p each :money::j DD thought I had finally lost it, until I explained :rotfl::rotfl: I also managed to grab some tins of hotdogs which had been reduced from 98p to 50p and some tissues also reduced, all to go towards the winter prep
I'm a rep for a well known beauty catalogue, and as a result I will have to be out and about in all weathers on foot as I don't drive. This will be my first winter working this job, so I was wondering whether peeps could help me out with some suggestions to keep me warm & safe when out an about? Last winter when we had all the ice, DD and I basically hibernated but it won't be an option this time as I need to work or I don't get paid! I have a pair of high-tec walking boots and will be getting DD some, but I found even in these I was cold & slipping everywhere. An added problem is that I suffer from Raynaud's phenomenon so I have to keep my extemeties toasty, so I have a few handwarmers already but will be stocking up on more next time I'm near homebargains. I don't know where to even start ATM. Think I'll have to dig out the winter hat box and convince DD that it doesn't matter if we're wearing matching outfits, health & saftey is a damn sight more important!
Sorry if the above doesn't make much sense, but its been a long, tiring day and I'm more than ready for my bed:rotfl:

nicki - Im thinking of investing in some of those boots too. They will make my trip up and down the hills much easier for the school run. Thankfully my mother in law lives across the road pretty much from me and has said in bad weather that I can leave baby with her whilst I run Ben to school - dont think I would be able to find a gripper that would fit her wheel if Im honest.
My sister in law has given me a pair of these boots which she couldn't get along with. They are lovely though and are fur lined so keep my feet nice and warm, Im wearing them outside at the minute but Im thinking they might become indoor slipper boots for winter! Least my feet will be lovely and toastie!
Also looked at the window in my hallway - the blind that is already in it is a bit dated but Im thinking if I measure the space I might be able to replace it with a new small thermal blind.
Couldnt find vests for Ben anywhere yesterday but he has decided he doesnt like them much but he is a keen sportsman and Ive found these which are more his thing. They are called base layers which sports persons wear under their kit to help them keep warm during games etc so I figure as well as keeping him warm for school, they wash really well so he can wear them under his kit when hes training out for rugby and football as they are out in the cold until at least November!:eek::eek::eek:
Note to self - will also stock up on handwarmers for car kit and me when Im out at football/rugby - which reminds me too - insulated cup!Time to find me again0 -
Sammy, re the blind. If you take off the old fabric on the blind you don't like, you can put nicer fabric on. The top roller is usually cardboard and you can staple the new material on to it.0

I'm beginning to get miffed that my family hasnt consulted me about my grandparents stuff. It's sad but they had a lovely chest I'd have liked to take that Nanna used to keep her bedding in but I live in a one room flat and have no space. She also had some lovely candlewick bedspreads that this thread reminded me of.What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
