Loved reading all your lovely messagesEspecially like the idea of Broomstick circling her tree chanting incantations
Well... Ihave good news :j:j:j
A mini thaw has begun here today and that, coupled with my efforts has thawed the pipes and after a bit of wiggling and jiggling (the pipes, not me), I dislodged the remaining blockage and heard it race up the pipe into the WM :rotfl::rotfl:
Its all working fine again now and no burst pipes so I am a happy bunny and my sense of humour has returned
Really, thank you all so much for advice, support and giggles :A
Pleased to hear that Frugal, mine shifted itself sometime during yesterday afternoon; I have some cool blok sheets which can also be used as hot bloks, so I was warming those and putting around the pipes we have +3°C here at the moment and the temp didn't drop drastically overnight as the washing hung on the airer in the leanto was soft not cardboard this morningMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)

That's brilliant. I'm glad that my threat of incantations worked. It's very powerful stuff. I just had to suggest it... :rotfl:
Our tree is now up, decorated and twinkling and is protecting me from the flu bug which I have not got. An Early Learning Centre plastic frog has been balanced in the branches and has been deligated to supervise that bit of healing magic for the holidays.
If anyone needs anything fixing we (the tree and me) are ready and waiting.

Cheers, yes I'm good thanks for the concern. I am so sick of the cold now. UGH it's only December, a long way to go yet.0 -
Sick of cold here now too, just realised tonight that the waste pipe that the condensation from the boiler goes down must have frozen outside - boiler is in the middle of the hose so there is a lot of pipe to fill up before we noticed! Heating still ok so will just have to keep siphoning out as much as possible til we get a bit of a thaw.0

Use a hair dryer on the pipe and it will defrost eventually. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Hi all. Not been around much as really busy, hope you are all ok
We've never had frozen 'in' pipes but have had it on outlet ones so I always put a dw salt in the sink to melt as I used it & a teaspoon in the wm for the conditioner cycle, unsure if it helps but never done it since
We're all starting to get colds which isn't good. The first defence stuff has worked until now but I can feel my throat tightening, DP thinks he's dead & DS2 has little man flu. Thankfully I was stocked up on parrots and decongestant with my winter prep. Ds2 dislikes dissolving paracetamol but he's been told until he will take pills, tough! I hate using bottled medicine for things like paracetamol as it settles so you can't be sure of the dosage.
Anyway we have snow again & on call to possibly go to Manchester, York, Leeds or further north as DPs dad has managed to get a flight back today (2days late) and is struggling to get trains. I need to path out the front and back steps clear in the morning. Local council has stated they are reducing gritting routes by10% as the salt they ordered has not arrived, so I am not holding much hope for bin men tomorrow, 4th is forecast for snow so at a guess our next collection will be at least 10th of January. One day I might be more organised...........

For those who want warm and cosy bedding, qvcuk have flannel bed sets on as today`s special value. I have just ordered some for us because I just cannot get our sets washed and dry in one day lately. I was very pleasantly surprised to see them today and I hope they arrive soon, says she with everything crossed. I bought some a few months ago and they are so cosy and nice
This winter is such a horrible battle for many of you. The initial fun has completely gone and it`s a question of getting through. I am saddened to see that future oil contracts have gone up again overnight, affecting everything again. Not just car fuel and heating oil but transport costs for food etc. Doh this winter is a killer in more ways than one0 -
I'm another one who was initially pleased to see the snow but it's gone on too long and I am tired of it being freezing outside. Tired too of washing the clumps of ice out of the dogs' paws when we come back in. No, I'm not really tired of doing it because i do lurve them but I am tired of seeing their sad little faces as they hate getting it done! Think we are to stay below freezing during the day for some time yet. Off to google a long range forecast and see if i can cheer myself up.
Hang on -I feel v selfish for moaning now as I know that there are elderly people here who haven't been outside for weeks. This all started just under a month ago so that's a long time to be cooped up.
Keep warm.
Kittie, I'm sad for you that you are feeling down about the weather etc. as you have been such an inspiration to get prepared for winter and stock up etc.

Everybody please be aware that the flu epidemic is really starting to take off. H1N1 again and just as bad as last year. Numbers have quadrupled in the last week. One thing about this weather is that its acceptable to walk around a shop with a scarf on - sp pull it over your mouth and nose if anybody near you starts coughing and spluttering!
TY for oil warning Kittie .0
