Loved reading all your lovely messages :D Especially like the idea of Broomstick circling her tree chanting incantations :D

    Well... Ihave good news :j:j:j

A mini thaw has begun here today and that, coupled with my efforts has thawed the pipes and after a bit of wiggling and jiggling (the pipes, not me), I dislodged the remaining blockage and heard it race up the pipe into the WM :rotfl::rotfl:

Its all working fine again now and no burst pipes so I am a happy bunny and my sense of humour has returned :)

Really, thank you all so much for advice, support and giggles :A

Frugal - glad that's one problem solved. I'd get all that washing done quickly before another big freeze catches up with you!

    Really pleased for you!

For any of you who are finding that you don't have lots of warm clothing, don't forget that silk is a very good insulator. If you have a silk blouse/shirt (that you're more accustomed to wearing in the summer months), put it on as one of your layers,it really will make a difference.Plus it's not bulky.

I had a lovely pair of black silk-lined leather gloves which I lost unfortuanately (left them on the bus-I was mad!).Talk about toasty warm hands! As a replacement I bought some wool-lined red ones-less easy to leave the red pair behind on the bus (and I love red).Silk-lined is more expensive than wool-lined,so I chose the less expensive.

Am so happy for you Frugal, was thinking of you all day.

Well we have tonnes of snow and it's still coming down. I had to go to town today and it was awful trying to get home. The bus couldn't make it all the way but I already knew that as it was on their website so I was prepared for the extra walk. It was sensible of them really as a lorry had got into trouble on the hill and was blocking the whole road diagonally.

Am worried I won't make it to my relatives for Christmas Day now as apparently we won't get our thaw after all. Ho hum, I will visit them afterwards if it comes to that.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Oh dear :( Do they live far from you? Can't believe its still snowing where you are  Mind you, we have been forecast to get another dumping tonight :(

Just hope there is some let up this week so I can get to town and finish Christmas shopping!! If not, it will have to wait til after Xmas. I won't be seeing many people anyway so i'm not bothered.

I'm donating to charity rather than sending cards this year as i've been stuck in, poorly, and have missed the posting dates now anyway... Doubt much will get delivered in time anyway :o

I know! Can't quite believe it myself! But it wasn't letting up when I last looked out - all the footprints from earlier are well filled in now.

The rellies live about 8 miles away and my sister who lives about 4 miles in the other direction was going to be driving me. So we will just have to see what the roads are like come Saturday. The council don't seem to be able to keep on top of ploughing and gritting cos there has been no let up really.

If you don't get to do your shopping till after Christmas you might end up with some fab bargains ... every cloud has a silver lining and all that!

We have had at least 15cm to-day...am thawing it in buckets and basins to flush the loos as we have had no water for 2 days....we will have to make a concentrated effort to-morrow to thaw pipes (insulated) so that we will have some for Christmas....my kitchen floor is a muck heap at present as dog, cats and humans are all dragging in snow on their feet and I can't find it in myself to use the water that we are buying to wash the floor...will keep collecting snow and maybe we will get enough that way!

    I HATE SNOW!
