thanks eenymeeny. yes we are properly snowed in but are snug and warm with very well stocked cupboards, except for the maltesers that waitrose were bringing. Oh well, I have got to stop thinking about them

It looks stunning out there but we are definitely thinking 4x4 in the future, probably a couple of years

I iced the cake today and yesterday cooked topside for the first ever time in the slow cooker. It was a great success and I now have loads of beef, cooked and ready to go so I`ll make bread in a mo and slice and freeze it. Nice beef sandwiches if we get any power cuts. Oh just remembered that waitrose were bringing horseradish sauce. Oh well, adapt I say and mustard here we come

what a start eh! we are still in autumn so worse could very well be ahead. I am glad we cancelled ds yesterday as he`ll be more than glad today when he sees his snow. I think loads of people are going to have to bite the bullet and not travel, it is so dangerous out there

Well, it has made it to Wilts this morning. I rolled in at 12.30 this morning and there was nothing. Woke 8 hours later and its covered!!! I work part time in a country pub as well as my normal job and phoned one of the guys on the farm to come and collect us all from the town to take us to the pub as we have a party of 15 in for lunch. Its a big shooting/riding pub so there will be lots of 4 x 4 around. I am cooking him a big fry up to say thanks.
  • Was minus 6.3 here last night in North Kent and it is snowing. Heavier snow expected later on today.

Fortunately, we have lots of food and drink as well as toiletries and loo rolls, tissues etc.:D

I made sure that I got in early and stocked up.:)

Take care everyone and keep warm.

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • re thinking ahead: I have just put some alfalfa seed in water to soak as we will be needing some salady stuff and I can`t see lettuces surviving this weather, even if we could get out

It seems to be snowing pretty well everywhere at the moment and I feel sorry for everybody whose pre-Christmas travelling plans have been disrupted, especially if they're visiting family they don't get to see very often. But personal safety, especially on the roads, is paramount and I would never want anybody to come and see me if they risked being stranded for hours in their car somewhere, or having an accident.
OH has just trudged over to the shops although we could have managed foodwise. I think he just likes his walk, whatever the weather! . We have a snow "email alert" system for any vulnerable neighbour who needs food urgently but nobody has e-mailed so hopefully everybody listened to the weather forecast and stocked up prudently beforehand.
The poor birds are desperately stocking up from the bird table before the snow covers it again. We keep nipping out to try and keep it clear for them.

Heavy snow in kingston(surrey/london) right now :( One flatmate is en route to gatwick hoping his flight back to guernsey this arvo still happens!

I shall be preparing for winter 2.0 over christmas and will be bringing back from my parents':
    wellies
    bigggg alpha smark
    small parka
    lots of thermals!!

Due to flipping train stikes on the 23rd I might be travelling home via basingstoke  Though I figure it will be quieter than going via london. I just want to go home now, having last days of work today & tomorrow restricting me is making me really anxious :(
Just had a peak at the m5 a mile from my house and it's looking pretty snowy... but empty. I feel bad for my poor aunt and sister who will be at the florist back home working like crazy with all the doors open getting their hands mangled by wreaths!!
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:

Its snowing here in Liverpool again. We had about 4inches overnight, and I'm all sorted for it, except for bread :rotfl: However I will be digging out the breadmaker instead as I've plenty of flour already in ;)

I've set the minimum for the heating at 15*C but we should be fine as we're going to be getting the housework done quickly followed by putting the decorations up ;)
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

Wishing you a safe journey and a very Happy Christmas Confuzzled!

    Kittie
    - great idea about the alfalfa seeds. I have various seeds for sprouting as part of my "survival plan". Really I should sprout them all year round but I tend to go through phases.

MrsSnowy, hope someone will get you milk and any bits you need - the last thing you need is to slip.

Oh No. If I could I would get you some milk. My Mom had both her hips replaced and had spondolitis. She was terrified of snow and ice.

I hope someone can help you and get some essentials in for you xxx

This year is the first time since my Mom died that I feel like really celebrating Christmas so haven't really bought cards etc for years (Mom died 13 Dec 2005). Its been a chore rather than exciting. But I tried hard for my kids no body else mattered. I went into myself and found it hard to get out for a couple of years after her death as she was my best friend and I still miss her daily.

I am hoping to be even better next year and get v organised and have lots of time to celebrate.
(((((Diddly))))) Sorry to hear you lost your Mom - it really does change things. I hope in time you find a way of celebrating that remembers your Mom and is nice and meaningful for you. I wasn't very close to my Mum in a lot of ways but we loved each other to bits and Christmas always revolved around her - so I haven't felt like celebrating since she died in 2008. I haven't even got my tree up this year (but that is partly for other reasons like not having the energy cos of health problems). Christmas doesn't really have meaning for me now as I'm not religious, am not doing it for Mum any more and I can't stand the consumer-fest of excess it seems to have become and don't have enough money to participate in the spending frenzy anyway. I guess I'll get back into it eventually though and find some personal meaning in it. Maybe I will look into Yule, I saw someone mention it.

Thanks for that and have you seen the pics on the same site from Winter 62 and 63? Seems like we ain't seen nothin' yet!
Safe journey Confuzzled, have a lovely Christmas we'll miss you. Kittie, I hope you aren't properly snowed in yet, just a couple of days out would make a difference wouldn't it? :grouphug:
Kitchen designs: I posted a thread asking 'What do you regret buying for your home?' Some very useful information emerged. You might like to take a look and maybe post about those plinths? Thanks:)
That thread sounds great - what board is it on?

We got snow - a bare dusting!!! I'm glad because I have to go out later and my fear was getting stranded if it was bad again. I'm glad I stocked up anyway - the stuff will all be needed one way or another.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I think I picked that up from my Mum, she hated it too. Would love to experience Hogmanay - you sure know how to celebrate!!! :) What will you be doing Mar?
