Just saw Aldi have boots slippers for €4.99 next Thursday and as far as I remember they have the same offers in the UK.

Its coming again next week apparently...that stuff that brings the whole country to a grinding hault so get stocked up!

I've been reading a weather forum, lots of experts on there and one in particular is apparently very accurate. He's been saying it will be cold (- temperatures) again next week with storms around the 20th December. Too early to be exact but thats how he interprets the charts. TV forecasters out of responsibility cant give us the whole outlook in case of panic buying etc.

So, I'm using the warmer weekend temperatures to get out and finish off what needs to be done for Christmas, get stocked up and then not worry too much.

Having a carpet fitted on the 23rd, but you cant control the weather so if it doesnt happen, we will live!

  • We seem to have draughts coming in from around UPVC doors. The doors are around 16 years old I guess. They have a black plastic rubber around the edge of them for the draught excluding. I was wondering if I should buy some draught excluder and stick around the edge of the door - Anyone think that would help?

Also would like to buy a couple of them draught excluder sausages for the bottom of the doors but can't find them in any shops - Any ideas?

Also have a condensation problem and was wondering if I should get a dehumidifier. Any ideas on this and how much do they cost to run? Also what would be the miniumum size required for a two bedroom chalet type property (two floors).

    Thank you.

Hi,I don't know if I can be off much help. For the doors with the draughts, are these external doors,ie front/back doors? If so,maybe putting a curtain up could help.
I'm sure putting draught excluders around the edges won't do any harm.

As for the draught excluders that go against doors on the floor:I made mine.I bought some hessian from a fabric shop, formed the basic shape using a tacking stitch and then filled using an old rolled-up rug, then stitched the end up.You can use any old material that you have around or even just roll up a large towel, put elastic bands around to hold it together and use that.Draught excluders can make a big difference.

As for condensation,I don't have a dehumidifier,so can't advise you on that.My folks have one;they're very efficient.I have a bought container with crystals in that absorb the moisture.I presume you can get these in the UK,but don't know under what name.Costs a lot less than a dehumidifier, you need to change to crystals every 6-8 weeks depending on the conditions.Having the windows open every day is important, even in this cold weather.

Having a humidity level above 60% is too high.If it's above 60%,I open the window for 5-10 minutes.

As for me,I still haven't got curtains for the kitchen,so have a big towel hanging up.Off to have a look in the charity shop tomorrow for curtains. The kitchen has shutters, but having curtains as well would be good.Plus a layer of bubble-wrap!

It's been quite a day in London, with the students protesting. And it is still going on.

Went shopping at Mr S and used my 10,000 odd points collected over the year....

    Total was originally £75.83

With points and money off coupons, ended up paying £12.62. :T:j:j:j

Got home to find a cardboard carton, left in the shed, containing 5 packets of Tyrrells crisps, free, gratis and for nothing.

    Oh, happy days................

    It's by 3M.

This is the Swiss site (I live in Switzerland) and can only get the info in German or French.I tried to find it on the UK website but I couldn't.I've sent a email, asking if it is available in the UK.I'll let you know if I get a reply.

It's inexpensive, takes up little room and works really well. You do have to get refills but they last a good while.I have one in my sitting room (I'd had a problem with mould in one corner) and one in the cellar.

I have read that you can make something similar by punching holes in the lid of an empty margarine tub,and then half filling it with salt. The moisture is drawn in and absorbed by the salt. You have to change the salt from time to time,of course.I haven't tried it myself, but it's another inexpensive option.
