I spelled Cupar wrong as well and I was born in Fife LOL! We had an avalanche at half two in the morning, all the snow slid off the roof and onto the steps that the OH has lovingly cleared yesterday. so he's back out there now with a sharp spade
I find synthetic fabrics rubbish as well - forget who said that further up the thread. I need wool, pure wool, and nothign but wool. Unless its Alpaca LOL I think in the old days people didnt need central heating anyway because they had warmer clothes and more layers. We've turned into wimps0 -
Well thats my coal man been - ton of smokeless in one bunker and 250kgs of anthracite in another. Good stock of fire-lighters and kindling's in the garage. Oil tank just around 3/4s full. Gas bottle for the caravan cooker is full. House full of wind up batteries and lanterns.
Jerry can of diesel just in case the fuel pumps freeze again ( they did this week two days )
Had another delivery of salt
Have piles of fleeces for the sofa and the beds for the guests over Christmas all washed ready
All the family now have yaktrax's - either already in use or sat waiting as Christmas pressies
Have bought fingerless gloves for the olds. Esp mum as shes sat at her pc then comes out and says shes so cold
Store cupboard is stocked with toilet rolls as well as tinned and packet food. And theres a case or two of bottled water in the garage
Plenty of cough and cold thingies and children's medicines in the top cupboard - along with anti acids and pain killers
Bird food to feed half the bird population in the county bought in and supplemented with daily scraps
Dog food to be picked up at the weekend
Now I just want hubbies flight to not get cancellated next week and him home and after that - the weather can throw what it likes at us0 -
I've been unpacking a little this week and found some curtains with VERY thick interlining. BUT they don't quite fit the windows in a room with no curtains at all. I'm guessing I'm better hanging them anyway pro tem to help prevent draughts? I have three pairs of curtains which are not quite wide enough in all! I'm going to add one pair to the pair not quit wide enough in our bedroom they are a similar colour at least.0

Anygood with a sewing machine and a pair if scissors?
if so cut the ones you like the least and add them to the sides and bottom of the ones you do like - make a border. Will lengthen and widen them enough to fit0 -

hope everyone is keeping warm!
I lagged mine with a ripped up old t-towel, has worked so far. Just kept winding strips round it till I couldn't physically fit any more on, might be worth a go if you can get to it.0 -
can't believe it, it's 6C right now! wow, i almost feel the urge to go outside in my swimsuit it's so tropical compared to the last two weeks :rotfl:
i'm keeping my eye on the weather, might just make it to the edinburgh christmas faire after all... though i think the dunoon trip may have to happen earlier then planned or i'd risk not making it at all.... last thing i want to do is travel with my ex AGAIN but i wouldn't miss christmas with my girl for anything (they'd planned to go to grans 5 days before me) i am soooo glad i'm self employed and can be more flexible with my time. 5 extra days off will hurt a bit but it won't get me in trouble
my greatest sympathy goes out to those of you that ARE forced to go into work in severe weather or risk losing your job...
look after yourselves folks and enjoy the 'heatwave' methinks it will be very shortlived!0 -

We also had 6degrees at 10pm positively balmy! a small stream running down the street but lovely to see the ice moving at last. This morning it's 4degrees so lets hope this thaw continues for everyone. Thanks for the list Suki.I'd forgotten a couple of bottles of water...just in case! (I hope that you get your OH home safely) I reckon that this has been a good rehearsal for all of us. I restocked yesterday so hopefully I'm ready for the next one and the shovels are now within easy reach instead of the shed at the bottom of the garden!
I also have a messy house, no excuse today, maybe I'll venture upstairs and put some things away...The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
