I so, so completely agree, not only is it positively tropical despite the howling gale, but the world looks so different. Have just come in from tidying garden, and to see the hens out on the grass again and all that immense variety of greenness, it's so wonderful. And to have the heating working again after all that bitter, bitter cold. Heaven!
...and to think a few days ago I was thinking of moving away from here!

I have updated the insulation of the house where I can but the cavity walls have some sort of insulation in them from when the house was built but it's obviously not effective now but new insulation can't be mixed with it.
Will a dehumidifier make the house feel warmer if it takes some moisture out of the air?
Thank you.
Yes, it most definitely will. Cool, moist air feels much, much colder than cool, dry air.
I think you'll also be amazed at just how much water condenses in one when it's running. In the first instance I'd run a dehumidifier 24/70 -
I don't want to encourage panic buying and I suppose most of it will have gone by now anyway, but is there something that you wish you'd stocked up on and didn't? or just that you wish you'd bought more of? Might be helpful for those who haven't had snow yet or for the future....
I wish that I'd bought more dishwasher salt, it's been really handy for the front path. Going to venture out today on the look out.The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

we ve just had our insurance renewed and really had to shop around for a sensible and i mean sensible price the quotes we received was more than the vehicle was worth been driving for 19 years never ever claimed.or had an accident. i wonder whether they are not getting as much business so have to put premiums up as keep seeing loads of cars for sale at the side of the road like famillies selling their second vehicle and possibily managing with just one .also it was on Watchdog about car insurance i get cheesed of because i want a better deal on my insurance because i drive carefully and try not to go out in the snow in the car unless important.0

Thank you. I had a quick look at one when I was out today, but just very quickly. It mentioned plumbing kit. Do dehumidifiers need to be plumbed in?0 -
No they're just freestanding, you just plug them into an electric socket.. They have a water container in them that you need to empty now and then. Very simple pieces of kit. Can't imagine what you need to plumb in!0
