Some help from you old stylers............
I have a curtain at my front door but it is on a pole and the brackets for this stand proud of the wall( about 3inches). Is there a way of fixing the pole nearer to the wall? .The draught just comes out around the edge!
Needs to look smart as door is in dining hall ( old georgian house)and visible to everyone.Don;t use the door , just the odd delivery.
Have thought of portiere rod on top of door but not sure how good they are0 -
I fixed a fleece up at the front door last night. Could not find a portiere rod in the shops so bought a cafe rod instead (£3.50) two packs of 10 ring (£2.50 each) and 20 metal hooks (99p). The fleece is light enough for the rod and the curtain can be drawn back from the door quite easily although we may have to go carefully with it. We think it made a difference straight away but will wait for another freezing night to really test it. The front door opens straight into our living room so it really needed winter proofing!"A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."
I still am Puddleglum - phew!0 -
Not exactly OS but definitely preparing for the winter...
I went to Primark today and got a really cosy pair of socks! They are fluffy on the outside and fleecy on the inside. I'm in my parents house at the moment which is always freezing but no toes and feet are so warm! It's lovely! They cost £2.0 -
I got a gorgeous pair of knee high boots in Asda a few weeks ago and theyre all fleecy inside they are soooo cosy, my summer housecoat has gone ack in the wardrobe and my fleecy one i out. I love cosying up at night:D:oIn 2009 i finally gave up smoking Have been smoke free for 3 years!!!!!!

My heating's on.
I put it on last week when my sister was staying with me as she's been ill and gets cold very easily, and decided when she left that it might as well stay on now.
;)
I'm currently doing storecupboard challenge (a bit half-heartedly, if I'm honest), to run down my freezer so I can restock it for winter. My next task over the weekend is to put up curtains over the patio doors - real curtains in the bedroom, cheap fleece makeshifts in the living room - and try to get a fleece throw for the bedroom, hopefully using a voucher I got for doing surveys.
Slowly (OK, very slowly!) but surely, I'm getting there.Back after a very long break!0 -
i must fess up, i turned my heating on last night for about 4 hours but only because this throat infection i've been fighting off was really playing up and when i'm ill like that i just can't stay warm so i was shivering even under two duvets, wearing microfleece shirt and jog botoms with my slipper booties, AND two pairs of gloves on as well as my rice sock!
i figured if THAT didn't warm me up i really needed the heat on for a bitmind you i feel a lot better today then i did yesterday and it's supposed to be warmer for the next few days so it's gone off again.
went to primark yesterday, sadly couldn't find any boots that fit me as despite them having size 8's they fit just like the last set of ugg-esque style boots (ie my toes were poking fiercely against the end, this never happens in normal size 8 shoes) don't know what it is about that style but they seem really really short. my daughter who is in a size 6 inheirited a pair i got from ebay and while just a tad loose they fit her and they are supposed to be size 8!
they didn't have any slipper booties either except ones made just like those blasted boots so so much for that
did well for her though and we got her some much needed trousers as well as two pairs of pj's, one set of pink tiger striped brushed cotton for now and a pair of pink and white leopard print microfleece for xmas eve so at least we got part of our winter shopping mission accomplished.
i've just decided after 4 failed attempts to get me some boots i'm giving up. the yak trax like things i bought would probably destroy the ugg like boots anyway so i'll just wear those with my trainers as and when needed and wear extra socks to keep my feet warm i guess.
i wish i had smaller feet, big feet = expensive shoes0 -
Confuzzled, one of my friends has size 8 feet too and has found that peacocks shoes fit her ok. Not sure where abouts in Fife you are but they have stores in Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Dunfermline and Leven. Maybe also try TK Maxx in Kirkcaldy as they stock larger sizes in a range of styles.0

Not sure if this will help regarding slippers my daughter went to town today to get birthday pressy for her niece she's 10 tomorrow anyhow because she has a type of arthiritis in her legs knees and ankles she got her some pink slipper boots with micro heat packs from bnm very strange as i was going to get them for xmas but hadn't even mentioned it yet practical pressies is one thing i always look out for they may be good for keeping feet toastie warm too will let you know soon as we get a report will be weekend though as she's going to see blackpool lights as part of her birthday treat2nd purse challenge no040£0 Sealed pot challenge ???? £2 trolley find not counting small coins till end year0
