    DD was most put out when she said something about Father Christmas one day near Christmas when she was 11 and I blurted out' do you still believe in him then?' She didn't, of course, but she expected me to act as if she did.

    And I remember one morning when the tooth fairy hadn't come!!! (I'd gone to bed early and DH was supposed to do it when he came up). Fortunately I had my wits about me that morning, grabbed a pound coin that was on my dressing table without her seeing and said ' nonsense, let me have a look' Slid my hand under her pillow and came out with it in my hand and said - see! Phew!!

    I rescued the tooth fairy forgetting by apologising and telling them I hadn't put the sign up to tell them to land!!:o

    that happened to me a few months ago with the tooth fairy, mind you we had stayed overnight in edinburgh (i was dead tired that's why i forgot :eek:) so i told her that the tooth fairy must have gotten confused and if she put it under her pillow at home she'd get her reward...cost me double that one :rotfl:

    manged to get my son one of the disney fleece with arms that were reduced to £2.50 in asda, it was thelast one on the shelf, got to the till and it had be reduced further to £1.25 - bargain - and to top it off he has never had it off his back so money well spent I think. I picked myself a cheap one up from Home bargains for £3.99 it is not too thick , but it takes the chill off my shoulders and i just put my fleece on my lap. Now my eldest wants one too lol, so will have to pick her one up next week when i go.
  • Thanks to everyone on this thread I was prepared for an unexpected power cut. We listened to the wind up radio, I was able to heat milk for my poorly DS thanks to a cheap camping stove, heat water for hot water bottles. Had the wind up lanterns, candles etc. easily to hand. Made it a lot more comfortable so thanks everyone. And to think DH thought I was being daft when I decided to buy a few bits 'just in case' ;)

    So is it just me who hates Christmas? We only bother with it because of the children, otherwise it would be just another day.

    Bah humbug!:rotfl: {slinks away with a Scrooge-like scowl :rotfl:}

    No, it's not just you! My DD18 and DD24 go absolutely mad, they started watching their hideous Christmas films at the beginning of October :eek: (Elf is my most hated film of all time). DS22 and I loathe it, the stupid pretence, the expense, the dutiful visits, the girls putting the blasted tree up first weekend in December. Bah humbug indeed :(

    Well I finally gave in and the heating went on last night - for an hour. It was so cold in our house! Once the chill had gone off, we wrapped up, got the fleeces out and curled up on the settee. Looks like I wont have to put it on for another few days as it has warmed up a bit!
    Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!

    I think that it depends on your circumstances. The last few years DH and myself have just enjoyed a quiet Christmas together. Just a nice lunch, no decorations, just Christmas cards and just a couple of little goodies to exchange on the day (chocs etc) As I was working in retail Christmas Eve and Boxing Day I can thoroughly recommend it. This year we have moved house and I'm not working so feel more inclined to put up some decorations etc but still insist on keeping out of the shops!:)

    I hate xmas too. It's all money/worry/debt/falseness. I like it better since I found MSE though, and can do home made presents, made with love & patience . Very satisfying - but I wont go near a shop if I can help it!
    On the other hand I love new year - always have. A new start, a new clean page lol :)
