I remember when driving from the north to Cornwall about 8 years ago I bought a can of Nescafe coffee that heated automatically when you opened it. Yes I know it sounds way 'out there' but I really did buy it, I did't dream it!

I've not seen them since. Does anybody have any clue what I'm talking about or if they are still on the market. Also is there anything similar on the market to put in the car for emergencies and 'stuckages'.

I know what you're talking about. They have a layer of quick lime or something in the can structure.

I don't think they sold particularly well, there was another brand called 'Rocket Fuel' but I think this had extra caffeine and guaranga or some such thing added (like those awful 'energy' drinks).

edit: Oh, looks like Nescafe ditched their version: http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/news/155450/Nescafe-discards-self-heating-cans?DCMP=ILC-SEARCH

DDs not happy that DH got the leylandii hedge at the front of the house taken out yesterday as "everyone can look in on us!!! "

Pointed out it will be replaced in a few weeks by a four foot copper beech hedge and it will grow, but they are not too happy.

The horrible utility area has been smoothed down and repainted and is starting to look much better and new furniture for dining room arrives tomorrow. Until we get decorating and storage etc sorted then the place will be in a constant mess and I want to feel settled in by late Autumn, if not winter.

Roast potatoes and lemon and herb chicken pieces are in the oven for tea later and DH is in the garden again - he is happy as anything to finally have a garden and garage and I hardly see him;)

Hugs to everyone having a rough time.

Hmmm, I don't think I know that recipe, you must post it on Old Style. :D
Good to know I am not alone in my non-handbag-lovingness. :D I often bring a small rucksack with me instead, or else a bag that crosses over me like you say Confuzzled. That way it's harder to lose lol.

sorry my grammar is appalling at 4am :p

yes i am often seen with a rucksack as well if i think i may need to carry stuff, and i am not ashamed of my trolley either... i'm way past worrying about being trendy and well into not liking pain anymore in my 'old age' of nearly 40 :rotfl:

not doing too badly though, kicked my 9 year old daughters bum today in just dance... another kills two birds with one stone thing: exercise and warmth!

in case you haven't noticed i'm very [STRIKE]lazy[/STRIKE] er efficient ;)

Hmmm, how about attaching their gloves attached to a string and put through the arms of their coats? I think it looks so cute and it stops them getting lost.

when i grew up in the states my mom bought me these little clips on elastic it was like a little clawed clip on either end of a short bit of elastic one end clipped to the coat and one to the coat.

solved the same problem but no tangles and a lot more comfortable. sadly i've never seen anything like that in the UK or when i was in amsterdam... i'd buy some for me too if i could find them :p

we had those for our gloves when we were little 58 years ago and I made a similar cord for my childrens gloves. The cord doesn`t tangle if you make it this way: get a long length of wool and loop the centre over a door handle. Stand away from the door, several metres or almost to the other side of the room. Twist and twist the two lengths together, then keep one hand holding the end of the cord, leaving the loop on the door and put your other free hand about half way down the cord and at the same time take the loop off the door with the hand holding the cord ends. The cord will twist. One end will be a loop ready to sew on a glove. Cut to fit, leaving enough of an end to tie off and sew into the other glove

Well my winter prep is on hold. I'm going to view a house in Wigan on Monday (we currently live in Liverpool) I've been on the housing list for over 2 years and today I received a letter offering me a house so DD and I are going up there on Monday afternoon to see it. If we do like it I have 1 month MAX to pack, find a school for DD, and sort out everything else to do with moving  I guess I won't be sticking with my voluntary job if we do say yes to the house and I'll have to start over with my idea of becoming self-employed. Annoyingly though I spent 4 hours on Sunday planting over 900 bulbs in my garden (nothing else growing in it except rose bush, a honeysuckle and a clematis) ready for spring & summer. Cost me a small fortune as well.:(

Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see. ;)

  • Can you lot please slow down a bit! I found this thread about a week ago and have been trying to read it all but I've only just finished page 29 and everytime I log in you've added 3 or 4 more pages!

Brilliant tips and lots of "we're in this together" feeling about the advice. If I ever get to the end of reading them all I shall definitely use some of the tips.

We put our heating on about a week ago and within a couple of days the boiler threw a wobbly and we have had no heat or hot water since. Three BG engineers have been round on separate occasions but we are now awaiting a part that has to be sent down from Scotland. The boiler is only just over 6 years old and has been serviced every year, so I'm not too happy. We were only using the heating for about and hour in the evenings but it's awful being without hot water for so long.

I went into my greenhouse to pot up some plants this morning and it was MUCH warmer in there than in the house! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
