WOW those icicles were massive! i haven't seen them that big since i was a kit, reminded me of the ones that hung off my grandparents bungalow (in the midwestern US) during the winter of 78' they were about 5 feet long and lethal but lovely to look at!
let's just hope we don't get hit with the likes of that, the blizzard of '78 is STILL talked about in the states and some people still have their tshirts stating they survived it... we were very literally all snowed into my grandparents house for 4 days i think it was til my grandfather was able to dig a hole to climb out of out the back door of the garage.
the snow had been forcibly blown into the the porch where the bay window was so it was about 3 feet deep for the overhang and about 10 feet long all packed solid with snow. i remember my grandmother opening the curtains and there was just snow, nothing else but snow and she opened the front door and it was the same snow from floor to ceiling!
when my grandfather did manage to get out he was able to walk right up to the roof from the snow banks, good thing too he had to clear the roof because there was a few feet of snow on some parts of it and he was worried that the roof would cave in from the weight of it!
after he finally got better access to the house and could get the snowmobile out of the garage he took me around on it, and i remember being so impressed that we could just sail over places i KNEW had fence posts because the snow was sooooo deep!0 -
That one worked. Thank you Mamzie.
I see your collie enjoyed it as much as ours did.
Ours was bouncing through the snow one day and suddenly disappeared completely - into a deep hole.
Here are some of ours pics
(My first attempt at a link. Hope it works)

Yeah, that one. Go on, laugh.:(
I'm close by you rowsew and remember us all waiting for the snow. It was like someone had held a giant umbrella over Dorset. We drove over the border into Somerset to go shopping (only 12 miles from me) and the snow was so deep there. It was amazing.£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0 -
omg yes, our collie would have just stayed outside from dawn til dusk if we had let him, he adored it
The icicles here were just enormous everywhere. I think lots of children were very quickly taught that althrough they were very pretty they could be dangerous too. We are quite high up, on a flat side virtually on top of the black mountains you see, so as you climb up to us you can feel the temp dropping even on a normal day. Our old railway station (now a charity) was one of the highest in Wales when it was open!!!
The walls on our igloo were really thick and dh kinda tapered them in. The children spent hours out in it, and even built mini fields with snow walls for their pets
funnily enough the last time we built an Igloo was during the winter of 78 I am sure - I was only a kid, but wasn't that the really bad winter over here as well, after a mega hot summer??? I remember the drifts burying the back of the houses, and visiting people with the drifts and plouched bit way higher than me or a car.........My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Mamzie - you are a flipping star. Confuzzled - you are now no longer spam!!! :rotfl:
Whoever was enquiring about log burners, a few pointers. Do not think they are cheap to run. Also, bear in mind that in the middle of all the snow everyone is talking about (fab snowmen by the way) you will be trudging outside to get more wood. That said, I wouldnt be without mine for all the tea in china!0 -
