I can't remember where I read that up to three devices can share the same account. Someone else might be able to confirm this but I am using both my kindle and my iPod touch on my amazon account with no problems accessing the ebooks on both.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

    Thanks for that.

I spent about £15 on 4 books last night as I am quite addicted!

I would thank you but the thanks button has disappeared!

I may give it a shot

You can download books and use the web browser free when out of range of a wifi network. I'm thinking of buying the 3G version as it gives the option of free mobile email and basic web browsing in many countries. But if it wasn't for the free to use abroad 3G web browser (which is slow, basic and monochrome), I'd probably stick with the cheaper wifi version as the need to download books when away from wifi isn't close to being essential for me.

Thanks, I dont think I will need to get the 3G version then if that is the only difference, as I would not use it for browsing whilst abroad and would pre load with books before a trip.

I have just downloaded the Kindle for PC from Amazon to give it a trial, and I am impressed with the capability to get the books immediately, and for free or pennies. It will put an end to the extra weight in suitcases on holiday, so despite wavering because of the "experience" difference I suspect I will succumb.

The main advantages of the 3G really are, in addition to being able to get the books instantly when you are away from WiFi, the ability to sync all your bookmarks and annotations with your other devices (like your PC and your iPad) so that you can carry on reading on one device from where you ended on another. You would also be able to get your periodicals and newspapers delivered to the device automatically without connecting it to the PC or being linked to a WiFi spot. With lending hopefully starting soon, this will obviously also make life much easier if you've got 3G.

I have been using my SOVOS (see earlier posts in this thread) which does the job very well.

Is there any news on the horizon for a touch screen version of the kindle. It is pretty much a given that i will get one but don't want to jump in too early.

I'm not sure I would want a touch screen one. The screen needs to be clean to really be able to read comfortably and my android phone with a touch screen, is filthy as I obviously have greasy skin!

One of the massive advantages of proper epaper ebook readers (other than the unrivalled readability) is the fantastic battery life (I get much more than a month's use on a single charge from my current cheapy) as the screen only consumes power when the page is turned. I don't think that would be possible with a touch-screen.
