Well they are totally different devices and not designed for the same purpose at all. It depends on 1) what you want to do with it and 2) what other devices you may already have. I was after something easy to carry around to read books on (the kindle is really the size of a paperback, much thinner though and really light, no eyestrain either as the screen is not backlit, battery charge lasts for weeks). My laptop does all the other things I need when I'm at home and so does my phone when I'm out and about...

Well I came on here to see if there was anything about a Kindle or e-Reader and found this whole thread! I've now read every single response and still undecided between all three! I think a trip to JL and test drive whatever they have in stock. I'm not usually so indecisive! I also buy sugarcraft books - would be great if I could download them too but I doubt it! Off to investigate some more.........

Thanks guys for all your comments and advice on here :T.

My kindle came today and I am impressed by the e-ink it is very different to reading on a laptop or phone. Text to speech is fun but the voices are awful, lol.

Thats bad news Marg, the kindle is really great as you will see on monday, it is worth setting up the calibre programme with a gmail account (it wouldnt work with hotmail or talktalk for me), in the morning turn computer on, set calibre to run and will download your morning paper free of charge (it really wont take too long to get your kindle money back if you stop buying papers).
Also if you register with jungle-search.com they email you whenever a new book placed on amazon for £0.00 so you can decide if you want it
Theres also lots of sites where you can download free books from unknown authors

I would email amazon customer services and at the least ask for my next day delivery money back, I got mine delivered with expediated delivery (next day by another name i think) but this was free because I used the free 30day prime trial and then cancelled....too late for you I know but its worth doing if anyone else is considering buying this

Hope it comes soon, Im sure you will love it

If anyone's looking for some sort of book stand for their Kindle, I'm using a plate stand from ebay (£1.30 for 2 inc. p&p!) and it works great (I use the other one for my mobile!) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-2-X-ADJUSTABLE-PLATE-STAND-6-11-PLATE-BLACK-/110580766733?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Decorative_Accents_LE&hash=item19bf20980d

For those without one, kinfinity.co.uk has a competition to win a Kindle case at the moment.
Remember this: nothing worth doing is easy.

I received my ipad yesterday as well. There is a kindle app so that should prove useful. We will see how it goes.
