A friend completed a DS160 Visa application a couple of weeks ago as they have a conviction for breach of the peace. However since finding out that it isnt a CiMT is it possible to cancel the application?
I have checked the US embassy website and Google and can only find posts about cancelling the interview, but not the actual application.
If they call to cancel the application / interview, would they still be able to apply for an ESTA or wil it be on record that they had applied for a visa?

It will it be on record that they have applied for a visa. So, even if the ESTA is approved your friend can expect an almighty grilling by CBP about why he felt his crime was one involving moral turpitude and why he changed his answer from Yes to No.
His decision as to whether to risk it, in which case he has to be able to prove he can use the VWP, or else carry on with the visa process.BEWARE OF AUTO-RENEWAL0 -
I have an A2 Visa type through my work. I am travelling to Hawaii in Sept on a cruise from Vancouver. Is the Visa only valid for business purposes and I require an ESTA? Or will the Visa cover my holiday also?
Any info is greatly appreciated.0 -

I take it its not official business, in which case you would need an esta. If in doubt speak to your organisations visa department.BEWARE OF AUTO-RENEWAL0 -
Another ESTA question:
My son is going to be studying at university in Canada from Sep 2012 until April 2013. He has applied for and received a Canadian study permit for this period.
My question is, he wants to visit some US relatives at some point during his time in Canada (prob fly to DC) so I want to know if an ESTA wil be enough?
I can't seem to find any useful answers on the Canadian or USA visa websites.

If he qualifies to travel under the Visa Waiver Program and will fly from Canada to the US then he would need an ESTA.

I am a citizen of a VWP country and am visiting the U.S. from Canada or Mexico?
If you are coming by land, you do not need to have ESTA authorization, however, you should return your green I-94W card upon departure. If you are arriving by air or sea, you do need to apply for ESTA. You should return your green I-94W to the airline representative prior to boarding your flight.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Hi there,
Myself and partner's ESTA both expire on the 5th September, we fly out to the US on the 7th.
Do i need to wait until it expires on the 5th and apply for new ones?
or can I apply now and will it commence when the previous ones expire on the 5th?
Thanks for your help.0 -
You don't need to wait until the current one expires before applying for a new one. However the new one will start from the date you apply and overwrite the existing one.0

Hi - I am UK resident on holiday out in the US now, been here for 5.5 weeks, flying back next week but have decided I want to come back again a week later for another month - however on my ESTA I obviously only completed all the date for my first trip - can I amend/extend it to include this second trip or do I need to apply for a new one? And do you think I'll have any problems coming back so soon..? Thanks!0

You don't need to update trip information as that is not mandatory.
All that matters is that the ESTA is still valid. It expires 2 years after application or when your passport expires.0
