No, you're thought processes are WRONG !!kev1n3 wrote:But walking into town every Saturday (a quarter of a mile) would arouse anyone's suspicions that there High rate award of the mobility component would need investigating. I have no problems with people that genuinely need DLA to improve there quality of life as I previously stated.
Lucky we live in a democracy & don't have local/street vigilante decisions,
curtain twitchers snooping & making instant decisions on their neighbours.

BTW... i'm at work from 6am to 6pm 6 days aweek.. so the curtain twitchING snooping & making instant decisions on neighbours does not apply in this instance. If they didnt brag and give the in's and out's so much ........................Your tax bill is the penalty you pay for not helping the right candidates get into office.:D0 -

It raises your suspicions, because your thought processes are wrong.kev1n3 wrote:But walking into town every Saturday (a quarter of a mile) would arouse anyone's suspicions that there High rate award of the mobility component would need investigating.
Do you think a benefit is assessed/cancelled based only on whether someone
can walk at a moment in time ??
Not surprised your confused.

But you still havent explained why my thought process is wrong. who said anything about being confussed? EDIT Every Saturday is not a momment in time .. is it?Your tax bill is the penalty you pay for not helping the right candidates get into office.:D0 -
Have you got a stop watch out, have you been videoing, do you follow them ??kev1n3 wrote:But you still havent explained why my thought process is wrong. who said anything about being confussed? EDIT Every Saturday is not a momment in time .. is it?
You said you weren't a curtain twitcher.
(you used the confused smilie).
If I saw you doing something, do you think I can assess you medically/physically ??
Do you have any experience/qualifications in this assessment ??

I think its a tricky one, I would hate for a genuine claimant to go through the pain of a fraud investigation, but if people are claiming things that they are not entitled to and are stupid enough to be bragging about it they will be found out.
I agree with peter999 that you cannot make an accurate assessment of someones medical condition based on 'seeing them do something'. My son has a disability bus pass and I have on 3 occasions had a bus driver tell me that my son doesn't 'look disabled'! I find this embarrasing as well as infuriating, AFAIK being a bus driver does not qualify you to make these judgements.
NB the vast majority of bus drivers are lovely and very helpful towards my son!Quid quid latine dictum sit, altum videtur0 -

To qualify for the higher rate mobility component you must be 'suffering from physical disablement'. Your 'physical condition as a whole' must be such that:-
1. you are unable to walk
or
3. the 'exertion required to walk would constitute a danger to your life or would be likely to lead to a serious deterioration in your health'.
or
4. you have no legs or feet (from birth or through amputation)
or
5. you are both deaf and blind
Based on the above info being correct... and none applying to the particular person. do i need qualifications to figure something is not quite right? Also Does the above info sound like it applies to someone who walks a half a mile (there and back) to the town carrying a a cpl of full bags back every week?Your tax bill is the penalty you pay for not helping the right candidates get into office.:D0 -

You have missed out;
2. you are 'virtually unable' to walk [the most common way to qualify]
6. you are severely mentally impaired with severe behavioural problems and qualify for the higher care component.Quid quid latine dictum sit, altum videtur0 -
I'd like the OP's view on people like me. I have been continually hounded by the compliance people. I was on IS and DLA for my child and when I started work i claimed tax credits. In that time I was investigated 4 times!
The last time was the worst, it wasn't so bad when they just knocked the door and said they've been watching me but when you get threatening letters saying they'd be more lenient if i confessed - well I was ready to confess to anything - just tell me what! I was terrified of going to prison with my kids in care.I was also called at my work and i had to find tons of bills, statements, ccard slips etc from 18 months ago, they had to know every single thing about my life.It cost £4 to post the documents and my bank charged me £5 for every monthly statement i didnt have.
Yes you do worry even if you're innocent, I couldn't eat or sleep for weeks. i know I shouldn't have been driving but I needed to go to work.My GP offered me a sick cert. as my blood pressure was through the roof but I didn't feel i could explain "IR investigation" to my gov. employers.
I dont claim benefits now, I'm lucky I dont have to pay rent so i can manage on my wage. I'd be entitled to daughters DLA and other benefits but I'd rather be poor than have this again.
I realise every case reported needs to be investigated, maybe these "anonymous" callers shouldnt be anonymous if they're so sure of their facts. It only takes 1 vindictive person causing trouble to make someone's life hell.
I'm not "trying" to be a victim, anyone faced with losing their home and family would feel threatened.
Also, if the IR compliance officers had concerns about me I would rather they just called me in and told me them. Why leave me hanging on for months wondering what was wrong? I've always been able to clear myself when confronted.0
