Illegal Behaviour

I am an accountant who works for the DWP and I have seen some threads in this discussion area wondering if they should report someone for fraudulent behaviour.
Those who steal from the public purse to feed their own laziness and should be punished accordingly.
Think of the people approaching retirement who lose sleep at might wondering if their state pension will be enough to support them – even after paying NI for 40 years.
Think of the nurse who cannot afford to live because her pay is so bad.
The single mother who has been forced out on the street because of a violent husband.
People sat on NHS waiting lists for months needing an operation.
Lying about circumstances to have better benefits is stealing from the most vulnerable people in society. There should be no question over whether to report them or not
Anybody in receipt of benefits needs to seriously examine himself or herself to see if they can support themselves rather than dilute the pot for those people who may need it more. There are plenty of jobs in this country (enough to employ over half a million immigrants since the EU was expanded.) Those who choose not work, while being capable have stunted economic growth in this country for decades.
Working the system to bleed a couple of more quid out of it is immoral. Corrupt and fraudulent individuals not only steal financially from the poor, they also tarnish those who need help with a terrible reputation.
I would exhort anyone who knows of somebody who cheats the system to report them as soon as possible.

TBH I don't think I have ever read a post on this board disagreeing with your POV op.
If I knew of someone who I knew in no uncertain terms was claiming fraudulently I would report them, the thing is what people know for sure and what they think they know are often 2 different things.
I have been accused of fraudulently claiming benefits twice in 2 years, all because my ex husband visits my home once a week for 1.5 hours to see the kids, some community minded person saw him entering my home and decided that meant we must be back together. So while I wholeheartedly agree that if you know that someone is on the fiddle report it, but please make sure you have your facts right before you do.0 -
fair enough if people know for sure, the problem is people think they know and report some one who is innocent of any wrong doing.some of the disability forums have threads by people who feel they have been persecuted, one man ended up in hospital after self harm,so i would advise caution and before anyone says you have nothing to worry about if you are innocent,i would say many people have mental health issues and are professional worriers.

Can you give me a link for the disbillity forums please, I didn't know they had any and i'm sure i could make use of them being disabled.0 -
I agree with your post but i think the benefits dept needs to sort itself out. i know a girl who is a very bad insulin diabetic whose doctor put her on the sick. Benefits lost 6 sick notes 1 original and the others copies from her doctor, because of this they automatically assumed she had £350 a week in wages coming in. Hence no benefits, no food, no rent, nothing. She ended up being subsidise by her mother also on benefits she was then due to this evicted and ended up in hospital because she couldn't afford to eat correctly. Benefits are a joke, this ws a genuin person who needed help, there was none.0

Maybe you shouldn't be working for DWP with prejudices like that.robindunne1 wrote:I am an accountant who works for the DWP

The half million migrants have come under desperate circumstances
& are working in minimum wage jobs to make others rich.
I'm sure you'll be more than happy to employ a cheaper Polish nanny/plumber/migrant
& save your money.
And I'm sure you'll be more than happy to sack them when you've finsihed exploiting them.
As an accountant I'm sure you are paid very well & will never work
on minimum wage job or have need to claim benefits.
Ps: You may be more symapthetic towards people on benefits,
when your job is taken by a skilled migrant which is on the horizon.
All the professionals who think uncontrolled migration is wonderful, will soon change their tune.0 -
I think the DWP should start with their own employees who alledgedly "know
the score" and help friends and family to abuse the system, lots of people
think they know benefit cheats, why do the DWP advertise phone numbers in
tabloid "newspapers",but don`t do it in the quality ones.A wise man changes his mind, a fool never will.

Employers & people who criticise people on benefits, think it's wonderfulToots wrote:I don't know if robindunne 1's comment mentioning immigrants has been misunderstood. Nothing detrimental has been said about immigrants at all. If anything they're saying that there are people in the domestic population who could work but choose not to and that there are jobs available which is borne out by 1/2 million of them being taken up by immigrants. They aren't criticising immigrants for having the jobs (well, I don't think so anyway).

there is now a ready supply of cheap labour.
Financial Economics dictates why migrants are taking these low pay jobs
& British people are not.
They don't have the same overheads. They tend to live in multiple occupancy dwellings, probably far more to a room/flat, and possibly even in caravans. Their "home" is in their home country and they are only here to earn money, so they won't incur the same overheads as those who are "living" in the UK.
Also, there is plenty of evidence that a lot of immigrants are working in the shadow economy, either as self employed (not registered for tax) or working for cash for unscrupulous employers, so the treasury don't receive their due tax and NIC from their earnings in the UK.
When the DWP accountant takes a low pay job & lives in a crammed house,
we'll see what he says then.

QUOTE]
I don't know why people are having a go at robindunne 1 - from the above you can see they are talking about people who tell lies and make fraudulent claims. They aren't talking about the vast majority of honest people who are in need of the benefit.
People who tell lies to claim benefits are stealing from the rest of us and that money has to come from somewhere. If it wasn't for fraudulent claims then maybe the Govt could afford to increase the amounts paid in benefits to the honest claimants (i.e. most of us)

An out of work accountant
No one would disagree with you but if you read my last post, you may realise that the point is ,who decides if someone is on the fiddle, many people are not yet are still reported by people who think they are.
also read some of the other posts from people who have been accused unjustly.
