Why should people aspire to the "work ethic" that dictates that you should only receive the minimum wage and spend all of your life worrying about bills, debt and earning enough to keep you/your family in a home and with enough to eat? Why should people be happy to take the crappiest jobs for the minimum wage for the worst employers for the sake of "the work ethic"? This has nothing to do with laziness or not wanting to contribute to society, it's our only go at life and most people want more than that.

There are far more ways that people are "using your tax money" than just unemployed, I honestly don't understand why they get worse press and more coverage than other sections of society.

Fran , on the other hand why should I , a pensioner who worked for over 40 years plus bringinging up 4 children, still be paying income tax on my pittance to help support someone who doesn't want to work for minimum wage? This is my only go at life as well and after a lifetime of work yes I do object to funding people who simply choose not to work.

    ??????

Someone has to take responsibility and work for a living.

There is more to a work ethic than being a slave to someone. Wish I could stay at home and enjoy being with the family rather than be at work all day.

Okay, what about making it voluntary to pay towards benefits? The ones that don't subscribe get £0 if they become unemployed, sick etc. Then the ones that gripe about the few pence out of their tax that goes towards benefits can shut up whinging. :silenced:

Perhaps if you had inserted the word SUSPECTED between the for and fraudulent, people would not have interpreted it as you considering yourelf judge, jury and executioner.

Because of that your post comes over as just another ill informed rant about the benefit system and makes me wonder why i have to pay taxes to pay the wages of bigoted individuals with an obvious axe to grind.

Tax is more than a few pence out of a pound.
So I wonder how much exactly goes towards benefits though and not the mulitude of other things we get taxed for?
Then there might not be enough money for the people on benefits (many of which genuinely need them)...
That would be the chance you take when unsubscribing.

We only have one take at life do what it takes to get a job you enjoy and are secure in.
That's a million dollar question, don't we all want this.

And what do you think most unemployed are doing
-we know, you think they can't be bothered to get up in the morning.

Can YOU tell me where these jobs/industries are anymore that you can get
a job you enjoy & are secure in ??

The economy & influx of migrant workers is creating a cheap labour, insecure
    work place.

It's only a matter of time before this affects the professionals, then we'll see what
they have to say when they have no job.

Not sure about the proportion of tax question, but on the second point, that person could be one of the ones who was paying tax towards benefits (in the event they were unemployed/ill/etc.) but then when it comes to them getting some cash there isn't enough money as too many people have unsubscribed.

I realise I'm being a bit simplistic here but these things do work in pots don't they, there is a finite amount of money for all benefit claimants?

And this will be the reason why eventually there will be no State Retirement Pension for everyone as a right, it will be means tested.

What annoys me about people is that they have no intention of working & will openly admit that they have no intention because they will lose free prescriptions, dental, free school dinners etc....They don't have the worries that people who work have ie: I was told last night that our office is closing within 2yrs. I will make sure that I find another job as I have a mortgage to pay, along with a family. Funny how I will make sure I find a job, whatever it might be. But some of these people will use the excuse that there are no jobs about. In the meantime I will keep paying my taxes to help these people live possibly a comfy lifestyle.
I know that some people have no choice that they can't work & I would never say anything bad about them.

Does my opinion have an effect on my ability to do my job???

I like working here helping people who need to the help.

I'm just aghast that people do not look on any kind of fraudulent activity as totally unacceptable. As for being "ill informed", I'm in a position better than most to be able to assess the damage done by dishonest people.

Yes, you are prejudiced & this will compromise decisions you take.

Many forms of prejudice have been outlawed.
Nowadays there are many codes of conduct in the workplace.

Just because a prejudice has not been openly displayed/observed, it will affect your decisions.

You should see your boss & tell him what you have said here
& let them make the decision whether you stay in your job or assigned elsewhere.
