  • Welcome to diaryland Trixie. Well done on having your lightbulb moment and trying to get yourself out of this.

I found it so hard keeping track at first, but im into the hang of it now.

    Keep us posted.

Mummytogirls (also have 2 and work part time!!)
    Mummytogirls x

  • Thanku for the welcome Mummy2girls,

I've got girlies too which make it even more difficult not buying super cute things for them!!

So far today i've spent ............... nothing!!! - it is a bit of a one off i'm sure, but i remembered to bring soup with me to work for lunch and didn't venture out at lunchtime, so i wasn't temped by anything!!

Doing nothing after work either, just straight home, so no spending there either, just need to bypass the computer as online shopping is also off of the agenda!!!:rotfl:

  • Feeling a tad overwhelmed by stuff today, never a good sign when it's comes to spending.

After having my 'light bulb' moment at the weekend and starting to put lots into place to sort myself out, i just kinda emptionally crashed last night, i think it's probably the realisation of how stupid i've been in the past and how little i've got to show for working since i was 18, was talking to my husband last night about how i want to be able to own our own house in the future, but hey who am i trying to kid, i'm nearly 40 and unless i win the lottery at some point how is that gonna happen.

Anyway, i'm gonna check out the old style (i think that's what it's called from reading other posts)board and plan meals for the week, i'm sure i've probably got enough to keep all 4 of us going for a month with what i've got jammed in my freezer, just need a little bit of inspiration.

    Anyway, spends yesterday - 0

Today, have brought lunch into work and if i don't venture out at lunchtime then i won't be tempted, also gonna sort some stuff out for ebay tonight as i would love to think i could roll with the £10per day challenge (more likely £2 per day - lol)

Well, i'm just off to buff my halo as i sip the 'free' office drinks machine coffee rather than a £2.50 cafe nero one!!!:A

Hi Trixie - have a virtual Jaffa Cake and go for a mooch on some more diaries - I highly recommend Hypno06, MemoryGirl and BenBen as being fantastic sources of inspiration on how to make pennies s-t-r-e-t-c-h and still have a life at the same time.

I get the same feeling when I think back to how I used to earn nearly double what I do now, had a much cheaper mortgage etc and partly thanks to the exOH who was a leech, I spent every penny and have not a huge amount to show for it :( But, the most important thing is that every day is a fresh start and you're going great guns on not spending, so this time next year you may well have paid off all your debts and be attacking the mortgage!

Keep smiling and enjoy that free coffee!
  • Thank you kittikins,

It is amazing to see how other people, like yourself have walked in my shoes and have come out the other side, you are all truly an inspiration.

I will definately be checking in on your suggested diaries to keep me on track.

I think i'm gonna be a bit reckless now, in line with my new rock n roll lifestyle and brew myself a free cup of tea - lol lol lol!!!!:rotfl:

  • Needless to say i am scrutinising my monthly outgoings and trying to identify where i can cut back.

I came across my milkman account and realised just how much i was spending, i can access and amend my order up until 9pm the night before delivery and so i've been popping online to order the bread i'd forgotten to pick up or some croissants for breakfast ya de da de da - i'm sure you get the picture, but then i also realised i've quite often got to buy milk for breakfasts because the milkman always arrives after the kids have gone to school - obviously i am just being a serial plank, so as much as i want to support the local community (which was why i hooked up with the milkman originally) supporting my financial stress has to come first!!

    Sorry Milky !!:(

  • Ooh this sounds so like me, I will def be following with interest! My debt is more like £7000 with nothing to show for it, but slowly I'm not spending so hopefully I'll put my debt down so one day we can buy a house!

    Best of luck x
No more spending hard - Time for the scrimping!
  • Hey there,

It's good to know i'm not the only one!!!!! lol:rotfl:

Buying our own house is definately my motivation at the moment (preferable detached 5 bedroom by the sea (hell will mostly freeze over first!!))

Definately keep checking in, i have to warn ya though it might just be mind numbingly boring at times!!!!!! :rotfl:

I'm off now to check on meal ideas for the week that are quick to do and will relieve the pressure in my kitchen cupboards and freezer. (i have moment of thinking i'm going to be a domestic goddess buy all of the ingredients, cook once and then be left with all of ingredients, time to dust down my spices and make something the kids won't eat - lol

    xx

Hey Trixie, just think after all those free drinks, you'll be using the free 'facilities', lol.

Get yourself onto the OS board for meal ideas - or Weezl74 has a fabulous thread going on the "How much have you saved" board where they can feed a family of 4 3 meals a day for £100 a month! DD and I are vegetarian and I'm a wannabe vegan, so I'm seriously considering doing the vegan plan they have. Both the meaty and vegan plans contain all the nutrients you need and there are some amazingly delicious recipes I've tried from there :0)

I don't know how to do links but it should be easy to find. They've also set up a website but I can't remember the name of it at the moment......good luck!

I'm lucky in that I have a milk account which I very rarely use as only DD drinks milk, only if there's a good freebie offer on, and my milkie turns up at about 6am, so it works for me, but I think it's probably more expensive than going to the dreaded supermarket aka money magnet shop!
  • Hey Kittikins,

The first milkman we had always came really early, which was perfect but he left about 6 months ago and the new milky arrives around 9.30ish, during the school hols when we needed to be up and out by 9 the milk was being left out all day ( not ideal in the warm weather unless you're trying to fast track cottage cheese!!)
I've spoken with the delivery centre and they've basically said the route is set and won't be changed, so i been left with little choice to cancel ( especially as the bill was between £40 - £50 per month, in light of my little extra's, i truly am a liability!!)

Note to self, sort out the flipping freezer to accomodate room for milk and bread so i don't keep having to go to 'money magnet':rotfl:

Thanks for advice on threads for meals, I was a vegetarian for nearly 20 years but when i was pregnant with DD2 i had unrelenting cravings for pepperoni pizza (what was that all about) and since then i eat chicken occasionally, some minced beef meals if they are homemade, oh and the odd pepperoni pizza.
My OH is a true carnivore and my kids eat a good mix of everything, so it will be interesting seeing how i can cut back - £100 per month for 3 meals per day for 4 seems unbelievable right now, i spend near on that per week and still have nothing to cook!!!! - i can't wait to save, save, save

I think i'm gonna have to start supermarket shopping online to resist temptation and only buy what i have to.
