Hi guys, I knew my post would cause a bit of ruction so thank you to those who replied and thankfully didn't get an issue with my point.
I am not a 'thin' person infiltrating a slimming thread, I'm genuinely interested in whether these plans really do work. The answer is probably yes if you stick to it for life. I just don't want to be one of those people who is constantly thinking about what is going in my body, it needs to automatic if you get what I mean.
So for those who asked, even after reading all this and all the other weight loss threads, I don't think it's for me. Throughout my twenties I didn't have a problem with size and never weighed myself, I have no idea what weight I was from age 20 through to past 30. But I exercised regularly and properly. My issues are laziness, portion sizes and a love of wine and other alcoholic beverages.
I honestly understand the concept and why it seems the best option for many - like any other diet plan or concept it's a way of controlling calories that is easier for you to keep track of. It doesn't seem to 'cure' people's habits of overeating though - it seems like you are 'on' it or 'off' it.
Best of luck to you all anyway.0 -

it's really hard to stay motivated to exercise!
I lent (supposed to be hired but not had any money from them)my treadmill to someone earlier this year and asked them this week if they have finished with it, but they are still using it daily apparantly.
I have decided to stick it out until Saturday (give myself Sunday off), and try something else from Monday.
Can anyone tell me an alternative way to burn 500 KCals a day over 4 x 15 - 20 mins of exercise? Have a Wii fit if anything on that (was thinking of doing the jogging 'game'). Don't have the confidence at the moment to join the local swimming sessions or gym so its either the bike or jumping round the living room to a fitness DVD
Also been wondering what the recomended amount of Calories each day is to burn off as worrying I am doing too little or too much.
Thanks
Hi crispnote, to burn off 500 calories in exercise you need to be doing at least an hour. The only thing I can think that might burn more is cross trainer or spinning but you would still need more than half an hour realistically. 1 hour of step burns about 400 cals.0 -

SW doesnt control calories like other diets. thats why it is a long term eating plan.
I think most of us are still in the weight loss stages as opposed to the maintaining stages. And so this is helping many get control.
Portion sizes isnt an issue with SW -esp on EE, sometimes my plate is full to overflowing.
But you cant have it all booze+choc+crisp+fried stuff as anyone will gain weight.
Dont be fooled by those who look "thin" and eat what they want. My OH has been a bit like this, he is quite slight, but he has massive cholestrol problems that no one would ever be able to see.
He has noticed he has put on a couple of lbs and has a bit of a muffin topHes been eating a lot of white bread recently at work along with booze has put it on for him. I have suggested a quick speed week for him

Hi Susan, my own system is working fine just now - exercising hard and just being aware of portions, alcohol etc. At weekends I pretty much have what I want, and that includes a big mac here and there. What I wanted to avoid was anything that couldn't be sustained. This way when I get where I want to be (and that's a size not a weight) I could then reduce the exercise if i wished and be able to monitor myself.
I hope to think like the slim and not get steadily fatter over a few years like I have done and do something about it when my trousers get tight!
It is always an option if needs be, so thanks.
PS have lost 2 stone since mid Feb this way.0 -

It DOES all boil down to calories though, SW like WW are plans which allow the customer to work things in a different way but essentially the only way to weight loss is the burning of calories that we put into our bodies.
I am not fooled by thin people eating what they want either - if you really watch a thin person they don't actually overeat - they naturally compensate for a day of overindulgence by not eating much the next day - without even thinking about it.
Even Atkins is about calories really. Not that the low carb brigade believe that.0
