Are there any more nice ideas for hearty winter soups floating around?

I've been eating TONNES of my HM lentil soup and it is really warming and filling.
I buy a smoked ham hough, or smoked ham riblets to make the stock, boil them up for about an hour and a half to make a nice stock. Sometimes you get a bit of scummy stuff on the top - just skim it off, i think it is the salt that does it?

Remove hough/ribs and add about half a bag rinsed red split lentil, i sometimes add more, the more you add the thicker the soup. Depends how much stock you have too, i've been doing mine in a big stock pot lately and add most of the bag of lentils.
Then add half to a whole swede chopped into small cubes - again depends how big your pot is, and 2 leeks finely sliced.

Let them simmer for about half an hour then add 7-8 large carrots, either liquidised or chopped small.
I tend to blitz it with a handblender once its done, in that case i don't liquidise the carrots before i put them in, if you want it a little chunkier don't bother blitzing it, but do liquidise the carrots.

With seasoning i add loads of pepper but easy on the salt as the ham adds a bit already.
Hope you like it, i've been eating it every day for about 3 weeks, and not sick of it:D

I made a rookie mistake last night, put the wrong numbers into the syn calculator and was WAY over yesterday:mad: Put in the per portion numbers rather than the per 100g ones and massively underestimated my dinner.

Not the end of the world, but really annoying:o

I've just weighes in and stayed the same - I'm a bit disappointed but not surprised really. After the week on penecillin it has taken me a while to get back on plan - I was out with a friend last night and chose the lamb shank with mash and root veg, and I asked for the mash to be just potato if possible. We also shared a bottle of Champagne (we hadn't seen each other for a while), so there could be some bloating from that.
Hey ho - onwards and downwards!
I'm away this weekend with some friends in Ingleton taking pictures of the waterfalls so hope it doesn't rain too much! We are staying in a pub, so will be able to SW breakfast, but will struggle with the other meals. I will take some fibre bars and loads of fruit.
I think I am struggling to get all the superfree foods in as I am often on the run during the day, so must try harder!
Have a good weekend everyone, and welcome to all the newbies - this is a great place for motivation and ideas!

    Morning all,

Was my WI last night and I was really hoping for 2lbs to get my half stone award and would you know I STS.:(

Was absolutely gutted, but I spoke to my consultant and she said it may be that I am retaining water. I walked to me meeting from work last night and was running late so built up quite a sweat to get there on time (sorry if TMI) so I'm blaming this. As it happened I weighed myself when I got in from WI last night and was the same, but when I weighed this morning I had lost 3lbs! I don't know how you can magically lose that much in 12 hours but hey ho.

Thanks for the comments about exercise, I am going to try Aqua-aerobics with my mum. First class is on Monday and I can't wait!

Hope everyone has a good day, and good luck to anyone weighing in today.

Hi. I'm up lagte coz i didnt realise how much caffiene is in a Pepsi Max! Lol

Just spotted Ryvita Fruit crunch in MrT's - they are like ryvita that you have like biscuits instead of crackers - has there been any sign of them as a HEB or synned on the SW site?? thanks.

I love pepsi max, since being on SW I have stopped drinking it but after about 5 days I was getting these awful migraines, I went to the doctor and she told me it was caffeine withdrawl - I never realised it had that much in, but I do still miss my coke fix!

I like it too - it has a nicer taste than diet pepsi/diet coke in my opinion. But apparently it has twice the caffeine as normal diet drinks.
I was awake half the night as a result (well that combined with OH stumbling in at 1am!), so I have ordered caffeine free diet coke from MrT as a replacement.

    Today I'm doing EE:
Vanilla couscous with low fat yog (only a spoonful, so about 0.25 syns) and a touch of honey (1.0)
    1 pear and 1 plum

Ham, onion and mushroom omelette with 1/2 HEA cheese
Other 1/2 HEA milk in tea

hm tuna pate (i think it it consultant's recipe) on 3 Ryvita (HEB) with cucumber and toms

green thai curry with chicken and mixed veg
Syns - paste (0.5) low fat yog (0.5), 1/4 sachet creamed coconut (4.5) and a few thai crackers (3.0)

    total syns = 9.75

    Morning World

Im still feeling a bit yacky but managed to get myself to group to WI last night......managed a 2lb loss wahey :j.....possibly due to not eating very much but im not complaining :o

Ive not caught up over the thread yet (boy you lot cant half natter lol :p) but I'l try today!

Update on my hospital visit yesterday for my 'new ears'...... well its a bit more complicated than I thought it was going to be ( I thought I was going to come home with hearing aids yesterday :o. But it turns out that the tests Ive had show that Im suitable to have a BAHA ....bone anchored aid, which means having another operation to implant something in my skull to attach a sound processor to (very sci fi lol)
anyway.....they put one on a metal headband to show me what it would be like - and told me to put my finger in my 'hearing ear' then stood behind me and asked me my date of birth!!!! OMG I burst into tears :o I could hear!!! through my dead ear!!!!!!
So theyve sent me home to try it for 4 weeks in different situations, shopping, going to group etc (only prob is the headband really is tight and hurts a lot....plus it has a big black thing sticking out that makes me look like a dalek according to OH LMAO :rotfl:......but he said this behind my back while I had my finger in my ear and I heard him ;);)
If I agree to having it done then its gonna be after the new year (mexico hol) then the implant has to graft with my bone for 2 months before Im 'switched on' but Im mega excited about it.....its gonna make such a difference to my daily life :D:j x x
