Hello, newbie over here!!
I joined SW 3 weeks ago, probably at the wrong time because I had all sorts of things going on! But, I have managed to lose 1.5lbs so at least its a loss. Hopefully now everything has settled I can get my head around it, I have never done anything like this before and considering I have a severe chocolate addiction (which is going to stop!) my body will go into shock!
I have read a few pages in this thread but it moves so fast I would be here for days trying to catch up!
Has anybody else struggled to get into the whole routine, i've been so used to treating my body like a bin (hence the need to lose about 6 stone!). Also anybody with underactive thyroids on here? How hard have you found it to lose weight.
Sorry for the questions!
I have an underactive thyroid although I am on regular medication for it and it seems to be ok now. Quite honestly I do find it hard to lose but that's me sabotaging my plans with rubbish!! I have been at target and am now slowly drifting away again, so trying desperately to get back on track.
I think if you are stable and you have sorted out your medication with doc, you should find SW really works and your thyroid shouldn't make it any harder for you (fingers crossed).
Good luck!0 -
Thanks inazuma.
My meds are ok, still feel tired all the time but if I take stronger meds I start shaking! It's good to hear a success story for somebody with an underactive thyroid. My doctor is constantly saying how much harder it will be for me to lose weight - great motivator!
Can anybody tell me whether weetabix (original biscuits) can be used as a HE (im doing EE)? I can't see it in my book and online it says 2 biscuits 6 1/2 syns!0 -

I have an underactive thyroid and if the truth be known I have used it as an excuse for the last few years. It can be more difficult to lose weight but not impossible. I lost a lot of weight on SW around 5 stone about 10 years ago and gradually have let it slip back on, blaming everything except what actually goes in my mouth.
I rejoined slimming world last year and lost 8lb over about 6 weeks, but I wasn't really in the right frame of mind so gave up although when I went back on 1st Sept I had kept it off. Since 1st Sept I have lost 6lb, 11/2lb and 21/2lb so a total of 10lb (5 bags of sugar in 3 weeks). I find you really have to plan and I have to be up early to get a good breakfast down. I'm worn out some days eating!
Make a list of all the meals you like and things you can take to work for lunch and then see how it fits into the plan. I meal plan and batch cook anyway to help with budget so it hasn't been that difficult for evening meals. The first week or so I was hungry all the time, but it has settled now and I am eating less. I'm going swimming later, so hope that will give me a little boost.
Good Luck, theres plenty of ideas and support here.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

I had 96% of my thyroid gland removed when I was 21 because it was overactive and not responding to meds.....now im underactive and on Meds to keep it within normal levels.
I found other diets (especially low cal ones) really not very helpful with this condition, as you must eat regularly (2 hourly keeps your metabolism at an optimum level)
Many years ago when I was looking into my thyroid condition the Thyroid foundation were promoting SW as a really healthy weight loss plan due to the fact that you could eat as much as you wanted with no restrictions.....never ever going hungry/never letting your metabolism drop.
It is hard losing weight with a thyroid condition....if its not under control - and you're following a plan thats not suited to the condition;) stick with SW and you will soon see resultsx

I hate rice pudding, but saw this on minimins which may be what you are after:

Im the same - Green days for me as vegan, thanks for rice pud recipe - parents say they will look at Sainsburys for me in the week - I seem to recall how hard it is to find pudding rice anywhere:(
I think I gave the Gillian McK books to charity as never used them typically!Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

I cant remember who was asking about the ingredients of AROMAT seasoning.....and not being able to have it due to being vegan.
I remembered my dad used to use a similar thing in the Schwartz Jars (pre aromat days) called 'SEASON ALL' which is a similar thing and very tasty on eggs, chips.cottage cheese.....anything bland really.
I had a look yesterday in Asda and it contains JUST herbs & spices no should be suitable for vegans - well worth getting some IMO as I remember it being ever so yummy before we found Aromat.0 -
All the big stores sell pudding rice -try the dessert aisle rather than the rice aisle - usually in 500g bags although Morrisons do a 1kg bag that is only about £1:40ish0

Found my Gillian McKeith book - round at my SIL's!
For anyone who is interested, here is the quinoa porridge recipe:
Serves 2-4
250g quinoa grains (found some at the back of the cupboard)
quarter of a cinnamon stick (I subbed a vanilla pod, when I lived in America so many things were flavoured with cinnamon I think I had enough to last me a lifetime)
125ml apple juice (or rice or soya milk, probably could use cow's milk)
325ml water
Put it all in a saucepan, bring to the boil, simmer for 7-10 mins or until grains are translucent. Turn off heat and stand for 15 minutes before serving.
I wouldn't have time to do that in the mornng, but my husband cooks up a couple of days worth of porridge then micros it each morning, so I am doing the same. It is on the stove as I type, so will see what it is like.
