Susan, brrrrrr for camping. I'd definately be getting some hot chocolate in.

Have any of you ladies got any experience of silver fingerprint jewellery? I'd really like to get a charm for my mum because I'm not sure when she'll see Sophie again.

Question re feeds on hols we are going to the lakes in two weeks and i am all confused about what to do with elliots bottles, how will I sterilise them?? And how will i heat his milk up without a microwave?? Someone suggested making his bottles up like normal minus a oz of water then when he wants a bottle boil kettle and add the oz of water and it should make it warm for him??

The main issue is i don't know how to sterilise his bottles
Weezl, the sterilising thing is 12 months but I must admit once Millie was crawling around eating dirt I couldn't see the point so I gave up, that was long before 12 months so the end is in sight!

See you have had a few answers already Kindof but we used tablets when we went to DLP and just used a biggish sandwich box plus agree with Millies mum re crawling around but I still do them at the moment. For night feeds I used to put the water in a flask and then even if it cooled I could use it with a kettle to top up with warmer water if needed....

OMG - my books came from the £5 deal thingy and they are great... I would buy some more but not sure if I need them ... what age would you say Kipper books are for..they are great £4.99 each but got 4 for £1.99!!!
Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.

I can refer people to the survey site that shall not be named (the one that pays £3 a survey) pm me your email address or send me it on fb and I'll forward you the email, 2nd moneysaving post in two days, go me!

I can too - if you'd like to pm me your email address.

I haven't been doing it long and have had about one a week, so £9 in vouchers in the kitchen towards Christmas shopping already. :D

I took V up to bed last night at half 7, and we both fell asleep. :o I woke up at 11ish for a wee, and went back to bed. Oh well, I only missed my dinner and the football.

I missed another entertaining night of armpit talk. :rotfl: I can say i'm another who doesn't smell. I often wonder if I don't sweat because I have no underarm hair, or I don't have underarm hair because I don't sweat!

Bruno If you're lurking, I love the new video of E reading on f/b. So cute.

I don't sterilise Alfie's bottles, haven't for quite a while. Everything goes in his mouth so I don't see the point *shrugs*. I just make sure they are always washed very well to ensure there's no milk left on them. We've had no issues.

For example, Alfie just found my flip flop and started to chew it before I tok it off him, if he's doing things like that I don't see how sterilising bottles is necessary!

He's still snuffly today but didn't keep waking up last night like the previous 2 nights so he's getting better. Gutted though as we were meant to go swimming with Gymfiend and Guy today and can't go now :(

ETA: I'm not saying nobody should sterilise btw, I'm just saying I don't see the point myself!

Maz - I have been reading T the kipper books but I think they'll last for years as they're nice stories and the sort they can learn to read with at 4/5 ads well.

Kindof - what microwave steriliser do you use?My tommee tippee one doubles as a cold water steriliser. (with the tablets others have mentioned)

  • We sterilise bottles because I thought that was to do with the growth of milk bacteria in the nooks and crannies of the bottle. We don't do anything else though and Henry permanently has toys and things in his mouth.

What steriliser do you have at home Kindof? We have the Tommee Tippee microwave one so I just take that when we go away and use milton tablets and cold water in it. Also if you have a kettle in your room you could warm his bottle in a mug/jug of hot water (which is what we've always done) or start trying him with it cold now and see if he minds. I think lots of older babies aren't bothered if it's warmed or not (not out of the fridge, but room temp).

I've done the BF survey, Sami! It made me realise that I got a lot of my BF support on here :rotfl:.

I love those Kipper books, Maz! I plan to use them for first birthday presents, but I think they would also be suitable for older children (3ish) who are starting to read words themselves.

I am supposed to be doing spreadsheets for work while H naps, but I have done none so far!

Doh- I am clearly too slow as Gill had covered most of that ^^^^^^ before I pressed post! Great minds Gill ;).

I still sterilise bottles for Benjamin too. Personally I think milk bacteria is more nasty than other bacteria and it is hardly a hassle to sterilise so I will continue to do so for as long as he has a bottle (he only has one at night now anyway).

I generally rotate 2 bottles these days...I did get another one out the other day and it was growing little black spots of mould :eek:
Although that could be my slovenly washing up skills - I am a dishwasher kinda gal!

Having said all that - I don't worry if I can't sterilise every time for whatever reason.

And I wonder if the 12 months sterilising recommendation is linked to 'them' saying that a baby shouldn't have a bottle after 12 months (or am I falsely assuming some joined-up thinking!!!)

This is the one I have, I cant use it as a cold water one.

I might try him on room temp bottles today and see how he is and see if he can get used to it for when we are away, it would make things so much better, he used to drink them room temp, but then when he got colic it was suggested he had warm milk

Also need baby carrier suggestions we just got ours out the cupbaord to have a look and its only up to 9kg which E now is

My HV told me the official advice was sterilise everything up to six months and bottles/teats as long as you use them. (But she said not to bother apart from bottles and teats.) I'm fairly sure that Boots said in one of their magazines that the official advice is to sterilise everything up to twelve months. I don't know how they work it out but other than the bottles/teats it seems silly to me.

  • Hi,
Just catching up, but I'll post now before I forget what I wanted to say :)
Glam - sorry to hear that your having a rotten time of it - I remember that feeling of leaving my baby with someone else all day too well, and I'm dreading going through it again in January :(
Scruffy - I'm sending you a hug, that sounds like a painful decision.
BM - bad luck with your tooth - Dan has a nightmare with his teeth; he spent Christmas looking like a chipmunk on one side of his face because it swelled up really badly and he couldn't eat all the lovely food!
Kindof - I was sorry to hear about your brother's Chrohns. My little SIL (she's 18) has Chrohns and she had the colonoscopy last year - she's been on steroids for some time. It doesn't seem too bad right at the moment, but she won't discuss it with any of the family, so we don't really know what's going on :(
Michelle - I'm sending a hug. I think it can be incredibly stressful, trying to sort out their feeding early on, especially when they struggle, but you're really not a failure even if you do have to resort to the formula.
WM - well done on getting a train set too - a real bargain :)
Anyway, I'll go back to catching up...
;) Working hard in the hopes of being 'lucky' ;)
