If you booted up the Rescue Disc, you wouldn't have the option to boot from the HDD. You would be running the Kaspersky program.

You really need to hit Enter when asked if you want to Boot from CD. Then the program interface will load. No need to boot from the hard drive.

I have never been asked if I want to boot from the CD.

Did you update the definitions before running the scan?

If this isn't working, we can use The XP disc to load the Recovery Console in order to run ChkDsk.

Refer to the screenshots in post #37.
If this is too difficult and time consuming for you, we can run a chkdsk to see if the hard drive is ok and then run a clean install if necessary, after making a copy of your important documents.
