I have found it on the Hiren cd, I wondered where those options were. I have got a 'normal' screen with different icons so what should i do now please.

    From an earlier post:
You need to choose; Mini Windows XP and from there; HBCD Menu. Can you access your C: drive from there?

I have to go out for a while. Now we know wh can access the HDD if necessary, we can come back to that. I'd like you to have another go with the Kaspersky Repair Disc. Check that you can see the folders on a working machine and then try to Boot up using it in much the same way as Hiren's disc. Back in a couple of hours.

Perhaps later, in order to save time, you can run a Repair Install.

You need a suitable XP disc. But I need to check if your DELL machine offers this service from a Restore partition.

Was it XP Home or Professional?

    Hi Donnie,
I hope I didnt get you in trouble. I have downloaded the xp cd and hope its ok. Firstly though I tried running the rescue cd from the page I told you I had but couldnt and couldnt work out where to start so i shut down the computer and hoped it would boot up the rescue cd which it did but when i go on boot from hard disk it starts to load and then we have the blue screen again. I have to go to bed now as i am shattered so I hope to speak to you tomorrow and sorry for making you late. I wont be on till the middle of the afternoon early evening as I am out in the morning. Thanks again for your help it is really appreciated.

If you booted up the Rescue Disc, you wouldn't have the option to boot from the HDD. You would be running the Kaspersky program.

You really need to hit Enter when asked if you want to Boot from CD. Then the program interface will load. No need to boot from the hard drive.
