I must confess the thought of day out and attractions rarely ends up successful in our house. Take the last outing; in the car on the way home DS1 said it was the worst day out of his life (age 7) and DS2 listed all the bad things about the place (age 3)! When we go park with scooters, a ball, have ice cream and possibly mcdonalds on the way back they have a whale of a time!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

They do really prefer the more simple things don't they.
We are just off toto a local NT place today, we have been there a lot and create lots of memories there. I'm being optimistic and taking my book assuming the children will play nicely on the lawn! Picnic is packed so hopefully be a nice hour or two.
Gas and electric meter reading submitted yesterday and have been offered choice of reducing dd by a further £10 a month. Am going to leave it as it is though. 8ky have offered us 30% off our current bill to reward our loyalty, £7 saved so down to £14 a month :j tried to sign up for e*e's free sport app but hit problems once I had to deal with b*t so rang up and had it cancelled. I am not going down that path again!
56p tilly tidy, current account will be fine as long as childcare cheque doesn't go out before next Tuesday!

Well that was a lovely weekend. Sunny days just make the weekends feel longer. Dh is also off work this week so didn't need to worry about getting everything done.
Another small food shop yesterday of £15.06 and got petrol do need to edit spends. Would be good to only spend about £225 this month.
Bought some books off a selling site yesterday and tied in collection with our day out tomsave on petrol. Books are immaculate (got 4 for £6, a HP and 3 D@vid Williams books) and will save them for dd birthday next month. Dd is an excellent reader (more able and talented in school) but frustrstingly doesn't enjoy it. I'm encouraging her to read daily during the holidays, she's been reading g00sebumps so its a book/theme she enjoys. However, she just hasn't grasped reading for p!essure. I am reading in front of her as much as possible and she will ask me about my book which is a positive. She will happily research things on the i-pad, yesterday for example was the history of the Olympics and often its football player facts. I just wish she would pick up a book, read a bit and enjoy it! She is almost 8.
I really waffled on about that!

My DS is the same with reading books but he too enjoys researching things on the net, i used to get frustrated but reading is reading??
The way i see it he's still learning and can quote some amazing animal/star warsy/minecraftyfacts.
Better that the phase he went through of just watching videos of people playing the games0 -
I am hoping the love of reading a book will come brodiebobs! I was a massive bookworm at her age.
39p Tilly tidy and food spends updated. Dh has been again today and is asking if I need anything for tomorrow? You can tell he's off work and spending money!! He also bought the children a pair of trainers each but at £6.99 I can't complain. Despite two reminders he forgot to take dd to her piano lesson so she only caught the last 10 minutes. Let's say I am far less annoyed now than I was at the time!
Just about to watch a film with dh, making the most of the evenings whilst he is off as he's usually in bed by 9pm.
Y0ugov money is on its way :j had an email today, looking forward to sending that as an overpayment.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
My sons all enjoyed reading but never went out to search for books like I did as a child, going on my own to the library and jumble sales. They just read what I gave them, enjoyed them, but then just went back to the TV. So I was always feeding their reading. Now as adults though, they are still keen readers so it was worth it.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
60p Tilly tidy done.
Y0ugov landed and £50 sent to mortgage.
All before 6am! Off to do a workout now :jJune 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Not sure what's up with me this evening. I just feel a bit blueurgh. Maybe a combination of working out at 6am and I've been on this plan for 10 long weeks.
Plotted £50 overpayment into spreadsheet and somehow it knocked a month off. This will change when we take on the additional borrowing as projected op's on that part of the mortgage will reduce. It was good to see that change right now though and I was also able to fill in another brick :j
Cb credited today, I was expecting it next week (I keep doing this!) So it makes the rest of the month easier. £87 to last 9 days. Very tempted to send another op as paying an extra £9 would mean a mortgage balance starting with £85*** next month.
Still waiting for valuation report from last Tuesday, was hoping it would be here by now so will be on look out for that dropping in my emails the rest of the week.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
My 7yr old is fascinated by all things factual for reading. He has no interest in stories but loves small bite sized chunks of info, dinosaurs, the titanic, volcanos etc... He also has to read every sign or poster he sees. The way i see it he's reading and i suppose society is different to 30yrs ago in our attention spans, and the way we take info in.MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......0

Thanks Jimmy, think I'm focusing too much on books. I guess things are changing a lot and there is different material available now.
Am feeling better after a good nights sleep and relieved I resisted naughty food last night. Feeling back on track and full of positivity.
25p survey on y0ugov on there so back to £4.50. I would be pleased at earning £5 a month tbh as surveys aren't too long and there is no screening out. Probably have some pennies to make a TT but will check accounts after work.
We have a local window company coming later to quote for two windows that desperately need doing. We were going to ask the builders to do it as part of the extension work but they need doing asap, I don't want to complicate the build and we also want a canopy over the front door which would have been subcontracted to the joiner during the build. We have had work done by this company before so am positive we will receive a good service and quality.
Better make a move and get ready for work!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0
