I think we need to get a new boiler before baby arrives for practical reasons - I cannot cope with the mess and disruption whilst doing hourly feeds AND entertaining a 3 year old. I had a quote for £2800 - i think I can get together £800 by end of next month so wondering whether to do a balance transfer at 0% for the remaining £2k to get it done and then pay off ASAP. I know it's not very MSE but I have no other way of financing it. Any thoughts please?

I think what you suggest is very MSE. Martin himself says that site isn't about never spending any money even if that makes you miserable. It's about making your money go as far as you can, and getting the best deal on the stuff that you want and can afford. You need a reliable boiler and you have worked out a way of financing it that will avoid paying any interest. Just make sure that you've got another quote or two so you know £2800 is a good price, and then you will have done everything to make Martin proud of you.

Thanks Newgirly and Lois, thanks for your thought. The boiler works but is ancient and high inefficient but possibly reliable? Timer on it is awful though and it wakes us when it comes in so can't have it starting up in early hours in the Winter as it disturbs us. A boiler is also stage 1 of our home improvement/extension plans - without it we can't move forward and do anything.

Not much happening here, simple reason is I'm exhausted. Haven't even been on here much! I'm 34 weeks today and am sooooo ready to finish work on Friday, my SPD is really bad now and my support belt although helpful doesn't sit very well under my work uniform. I had to take it off last night as it was just digging into me.

My payday tomorrow so I can finish off paying off little bills etc and do transfers for Halifax reward.

I need to shop for home insurance renewal prices but lacking motivation!

One thing I do need advice with - DH left school with very few GCSE's but did then gain a catering qualification and has been in that trade ever since. Is it worth him doing his GCSE's this academic year? (I am off work till next June so would be completed by then). It seems he would need them if he was to change profession. I just don't want to spend a lot of money if not necessary!! He also needs a GCSE in motivation!

I think DH is going to enquire about doing a couple of GCSE's as this will just take up 2 evenings a week. Alternatively he could do a plastering qualification but would need to do this on his days off 9-6 so this needs looking into a bit more. We're probably cutting it fine time wise though.

My payday today, had £11 more than expected so sent that to savings - think I will add this into my sig. Most of the other bills paid but account dwindling fast and it doesn't get credited again until TC in 3 weeks!

Got midwife this morning so am assuming she will recheck my iron levels and probably discuss birth plan. I will have to remain open minded though as I am hoping if baby is huge they will induce me and certainly not allow me to go overdue again. I'm normally not a fan of induction but i'd rather deliver a big baby than a HUGE baby!! Otherwise I'm sure gas and air and maybe a little diamorphine will get me through! Also want to come home 6 hours later please!

Toluna - claimed my first voucher, do they post them out to you? I claimed Amazon but in hindsight if it's posted could have claimed for elsewhere really.

From what I remember they email Amazon vouchers but don't be surprised if the baby arrives before the voucher :D

I know what you mean about the induction, with the twins I remember begging to be induced as they were a very good size and I could'nt really walk properly by the end, so on my last appointment before I went in my mum said get in there and cry! It worked and I was booked in for 2 days later, was induced which was fine and had a fairly easy birth. Sometimes you have to push for what you want, (sorry for the pun!), hope it goes well.

Thank you, my SPD is so painful at the moment.

Had an absoutely nightmare shift last night - am fed up of being expected to take charge and it was exceptionally busy and challenging. I am quite junior (although capable but that's not the point) and almost 8 months pregnant!! Roll on Friday!!!

Transferred another £40 to savings expecting my tax rebate cheque to have cleared but it hasn't so I will owe DH that money when it does as he paid for DD's haircut etc this morning.

Sold another DVD on Amazon, think I have made £1 profit but it clears a space on the shelf!

Onepoll is being generous at the moment so account going up nicely on there. Not really had time to check other survey sites at the moment as only had 1 day off out of 10 days!

    3 shifts to go :j

Some people on the thrifty gifty have had their posted toluna vouchers go missing, so i personally am sticking to amazon even if it does take a couple of months to arrive.

We were going to part-finance our new boiler with a 0% cc. I think it is an MSE thing to do if you can pay it back within the 0% time limit. You will be so happy once you have the new boiler! Our hot water heats up so much more quickly now and I think it will save us loads come winter.

I work in a vaguely careers related field. GCSEs may or may not be the most useful thing for your OH to study. Have you looked at the Nextstep website? There's good information there about entrance requirements in different careers:

I will wait patiently for my voucher then Michelle, it's the first time i've redeemed so not sure what to expect.

Pippa, I think you are right, we are going to save as much as we can then if we can't wait use the 0% offers we have. Someone said there were government schemes but I'm sure we don't qualify for help.

It's difficult to know what to do for the best career wise for DH. When we looked more into GCSE's it seems his current grades aren't high enough to resit the course! Will definitely check out the site you linked, thank you for that.

1 shift to go - IF my pelvis survives this horrible SPD!

Hope you survived!! I agree re needing a boiler, paying off the mortgage is important to us, but so is keeping the babies (and ourselves) warm! Really feel for you with the spd, I didn't have it but I understand its dreadful, hope you are putting your feet up now?
