im sorry if my question have been answered before. Im applying for the american express platinum card to make use of the 2% cashback offer as my outgoings can reach £15000/year on credit card. my question is there any way i can get halifax to take the monthly payment for my mortgage (currently £1200) from this card instead of my current account so i can boost my cashback...thanx0

Nice idea but I can't see it happening...
I doubt any mortgages let you use a credit card to pay them?
Best the MSEs have come up with it council tax, but not all councils take visa/amex.0 -
A few thoughts on Amex - having had a meet with them recently
i. No limits. There are no limits on earning cashback on the amex plat or blue cards. I know there's been discussion on this.
ii. Sustainability of cashback: I think this will drop at some stage, but not as radically as with other cards - they will still try and position as market leaders
On a note you all may enjoy, I got turned down for the Amex Plat card, seems having moved house recently and my electoral register application not yet filed, i "had nothing in error on my file, but we decided to reject you". Luckily on appeal they saw the error of their ways

HA! Probably too much rate-tarting for 0% deals!I have five stars! This doesn't mean that I know anything about any of the things I post. I could be a raving lunatic, or a brilliant genius, or just some guy on the internet. In fact, I could be all three at the same time.
If anything I say makes sense, then do it. If not, don't. Don't blame me or my stars if you do something stupid because I suggested it. I'm responsible for my own stupidity only. You are responsible for yours.
Why, I don't even have five stars anymore! Aren't you glad you aren't responsible for my stupidity?0 -
Is there an annual charge for the American Express Platinum card?It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!0 -
;D
Hi Grumpy,
No they dont charge a fee for the credit card, only the charge card.

Hi, does anyone know, if there are two cardholders on one Amex Platinum account, whether the aggregate balances are treated separately with regard to the cashback? I have applied for a card with a free additional card for my wife - we would easily spend over £8000 between us - but if the balance is split it may be better to use the AMEX blue.
Thanks.0 -
;)Hi Mike,
I think spend should all go onto one account, that of the main cardholder (ie the applicant).
The second "additional"card should have almost the same account number, usually with the last 2 digits different, to identify the user, this is so with other cards.

Thanks Scat, I hoped that would be the case but I'm just concerned as it would be in AMEX's interest to split the two balances to keep your balance lower and reduce the cashback. I do know that the transactions are listed separately in the statement.
Has anyone had any experience of this?0 -
A second cardholder is usually just that - they hold a second card on a single account which remains a single account with no difference between charges made by either cardholder. In fact, many accounts cannot tell which cardholder authorised a transaction without going to paper receipts because both cards have the same number. There are some exceptions to this rule and I don't know if Amex is one (Barclaycards have different numbers for different cardholders).0
