Seems I had 2% cashback for one month, but now have been dropped back to 1% (as have not reached the £7k ceiling). I have reached the £5k ceiling though. I will be writing to complain, as they have changed the terms of my contract without notifiying me within a reasonable time (also I thought the changes were supposed to be applied from October?)

That doesn't really make sense. If before, you got 1% cashback on all spending, and now, you get 0.5% up to £2000, and 1% after, then there is a reduction - it can't possibly be 1% on aggregate terms because cashback is at a rate under 1% for the first £2000 spend!

If you spend over 2K on it in a year you won't lose any cashback as the cashback is payed at 1% on aggregate amounts.
  • Have just phoned and cancelled my application. Can't be bothered with all the carrying on and I was told that if I signed up to the old T&C's then I would be informed within a 'reasonable' period of time that there was a variation. Will stick to my Smile Gold card I think!

  • I've just had an Amex mailshot offering the Platinum credit card with 4% cashback. This month is the 1-year anniversary of my having an Amex Blue.

I fancy a Platinum given the high cashback, but is there a way to finesse switching from one to another to avoid missing out on any cashback I've accrued in the new membership year?

Don't know - ask them if you can carry the cashback with you?

some bad news I'm afraid  :(
I've just received a letter from AMEX advising of a change to their Platinum credit card T&C's..

The cashback will now be calulated as follows:
Up to £3K spend earns 0.5%
    From £3K - £7.5K earns 1%
    £7, 501+ earnes 2%

this obviously changes the annual spend required to make the Platinum better than the Blue.

Before the T&C change, it was worth upgrading to a platinum if your annual spend was in excess of £6K (after the introductory offer in year 1)
however now, it's only worth upgrading if you will spend over £9K
    very sneaky  >:(
edit> I've just read here that Blue now only pays 0.5% cashback, if this is the case can you let me know as the above calcs will be wrong (it still says 1% on their site)
I'm only here for the banter

  • I rang to cancel my Green card (I've had it since it was launched 10 years ago) and was offered an 'upgrade' to a Platinum with 'up to 4% cashback' - instead of the poor points offering they do with the green card.

I signed a form they sent, and heard nothing.

Now, my new Amex Platinum arrived today. Limit? £1,100!

A phone call for an explanation and a stupid response.

They said I would have the (already poor) £3300 limit from my green card transferred 'within the next 14 days' when they closed the green account.

If I was good and used the card regularly and was never late with a payment I could apply for an increase after 6 months.

The BT rate is 4.9% life of balance. I won't do a BT because my Accucard also came last week with £5k and 0%.
