Amex Platignum cash back sounds great - except that virtually all retailers in Jersey refuse to take them because Amex charge the merchant much more than other cards do.

Not even the big retailers? Will have to have a walk around St Helier at lunchtime and see what the situation is. Was looking at getting an Amex Plat again for the cashback, but if the acceptance thing is a problem in Jersey looks as though I'm sticking to my Conran Card.

QUESTION RE 6000 FREE NECTAR POINTS. Registered for my new Amex Nectar card, have spent some money on it and had my first statement through, but no sign of my 6000 nectar points on my nectar account. Has anyone been successful in receiving their Nectar points - if so, how long did you have to wait for them

I don't think this specific situation has been discussed on here but I have found the exchange of experiences very useful (as always).
I received my new Amex Nectar card in the post on December 31st! All the chat has been about using it BEFORE 31/12 but I rushed out and made two simple purchases ON 31/12. Just in case and well prepared to argue if it didn't work.
On my account dated 15/1 I have been credited with 2000 points but I'm not sure if that includes or not 1000 bonus points at Debenhams where I made a purchase and produced the required voucher. So the Amex credit may only be 1000 points (time alone will tell).
I got one point for each £1 of my purchases and an extra point for each £1 spent at a Nectar affiliate (sains & debs).
Because of the Amex suggestion that additional points may only be added after month two (according to the reports on this thread of calls by posters) I propose to ensure that I use the card again during month two - to satisfy Amex.
I may decide not to query my points at this stage - but then again I might be tempted!
  • I've just received my statment and it only has 1000 points on it. I've tried to call them today but been advised that all their systems are down and will be back tomorrow. I'll just have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.
  • Quick Question!!

I have just received my AMEX Platinum and have just completed a Balance Transfer from my Mint to it, taking advantage of the 4.9% For life of deal. I think I have been charged for a Balance Transfer Fee. Has anyone else been charged this fee, it says on the contract that this "charge maybe applied" Need to know other people's experience before going back to them.

    Thanks

Amex Balance transfer handling fee - yesterday's post ...
  • Oh Well!!!!

It was worth the gamble as I was transferring £7,800, wasn't sure if British Airways would give me such a large credit limit. I had previously tried Lloyds TSB as I bank with them, but they only gave me a Limit of only 1,300 couldn't do a lot with that!! Just have to bite the bullet and get on with paying if off!!

    Thanks Grumber
