  • Called Amex and asked if i could change from Platinum CC to Platinum Charge card. Told i it would be a straight swop, until i got passed to memebership services! I had to go through the whole process again and they advised that they would have to do another credit check! They did one for my Platinum Credit card 3weeks ago!

Any advise on how they would see me applying for the charge card so soon? Anyone else been in this position? What are my chances?

Nowhere takes AMEX - and when they make mistakes they can charge you up to £125 for one month - where should in theory only be able to charge them £25 for late fee and £25 for overlimit charge - I am paying mine off and closing the accounts.. even though the cards look nice and who doesn't mind a bit of status - it is impossible to use them for everyday life..

They will have to do a new application cause it's a different card with different criteria. It all depends on your credit score and your credit rating. What kind of limit did you get initially on your platinum credit card? They may decline you as it is quite soon after opening your first account with them. Do you really want to pay £275 a year for a platinum charge card??!

Don't know what shops you use, but they are accepted in most major retailers and lots of online shops these days.

They gave me a limit of £9500. I am going on honeymoon on a round the world for 4weeks and was hoping that i could get upgrades and benefits with the Platinum Charge Card. That is if anyone gives the upgrades!!
  • The AMEX website now had a page about Chip and Pin.

It says that we'll only be issued with chip and pin cards when the card expires! Mine doesn't run out untl the end of 2008!

    Mine too :-(

I wish I could get a newer card. It would save me a lot of embarrassment from those places with new staff. Last week, some dude who was at the checkout (also his first day!) said 'we don't take these type of cards anymore!'. After arguing with him, he then changed his story to 'we don't take American Express' even though I'd used my card there before and showed him a receipt with my AmEx number and the retailer's details shown! Eventually a manager was called and he got a b****cking.

Got the result I wanted in the end, but still very embarrassing.

Answer :- Call them, tell them you have lost your card and you'll get a new one with chip. I did and six days later had my new card !!!!
  • I've just rung them and told them my card is damaged, so they're sending me a new one. Will be interesting to see the design of the Platinum credit card with a chip. It can't be any worse than the current design, which looks like it's been designed by a small child.
