Ok, fair enough, I never typed the way I meant to say it. I was just commenting on the price, and that you dont have an option of getting to use the cheap tax incentive (£20 per year) unless you can afford to fork out the money for a new car... Man, I have repeated this so many times through this post, I am gettin a bit bored of it now. Obviously I am not allowed to voice my opinion without getting slated for it. Over and out...
Of course you are allowed to " voice your opinion " it will not change anything, if you cannot afford to tax a car, you cannot afford to run it, simples.
At least you don't have to pay out the price of a new car to get " low tax ", so in effect you are the winner in this.;)0 -
Over here, Car Tax runs from Jan to Jan.
So if you purchase Tax in May for 12 months, then its just tough, as next Jan the car tax will be due again.
Also, if the car has been off the road & untaxed, you still have to pay the back tax on the car, and if its been off the road for too long, they de-register the car from the system, and you have to pay the fee's again.
We drive a 1598cc car, and its €110 a year to tax.0 -

In 3-5 years time these cars will be on the secondhand market.... and you'll be able to afford them... only the tax will have been increased. The man without a signature.0 -
I am about to tax a car I have just bought. And seen the cost to tax it, £112.75 for 6 months!!!! Unbelievable!! We are just able to afford this (for now anyway) but what about really low income families, this is outrageous!! There are cars you can get out there that only cost £20 per year and the like, but I cannot afford to buy such a new car to benefit from this, which sticks people into a horrible situation.... To me this looks like the well off wins again, people that can afford a new car get dirt cheap tax.... Unless I am missing something? I am really horrified about this!!

I thought your post was a wind up at first?! I cant believe that this shocks you I think the least I ever paid for road tax was £170ish a year and that was in 1997. It used to be the same for ALL cars and then they introduced the lower rate for 1500cc and below and then in 2001 the banding system.0 -

They don't do this for tax - turbo's work better at low RPM's than N/A cars, and as the EU's emissions and fuel consumption tests are all done at a specific RPM it makes them score better and thus appear more eco friendly...
I know - but VED is based on emmissions too, so it's all relative (the "free" tax band will definitely be a target for manufacturers pushing a "green" car heavily in the UK market)0 -
I'm wondering what this Government will do with VED rates now that Labour have finished messing about with them. In particular the so called 'temporary' band K for cars emitting over 225g/km registered between 1 March 2001 and 23 March 2006. This means a difference of nearly £200 a year (£245 as opposed to £435) for cars emitting over 255 g/km but registered before 23 March 2006.0

LOL, you not seen the car tax for a Range Rover. £112.75 for 6 months is relatively ok for a car. Try paying it all in one for the year as the 6 months tax has a surcharge on it. £205 for the year possibly.
Also, stick aside £10 a month to help pay it annually if your getting the car on finance.0 -
Next time you're in the supermarket look at the labels on the bottles of beer and get one that's the nearest match for a tax disc.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
