Ah, at least I score there then. My Mobylette in France needs no number plates, MOT, or tax disc.

There you go, some examples of reasonable mileage cars that fit your criteria, all with MOT and tax ready to go. These were found in about 5 mins, which is probably less than the time you took to write the 1st post.
Perhaps a bit more time doing some legwork and less time ranting on about something you can't change would be to your benefit.
Unfortunately car tax is something we all have to swallow, so we make the best of it.

    Hi Psi

Thats all fair enough, but they do not fall under the tax brackets I am talking about e.g. the £20 a year bracket. I know these cars are cheaper tax than mine, as they are under the 1549cc bracket, they are £125 a year, rather than my £205 a year, so you are not telling me anything I do not already know. thanks anyway.

I just find it frustrating you get penalised for not being able to afford a car that qualifies for cheaper tax. This is where you cannot call it greener tax, but just another guaranteed revenue, as people dont have an option sometimes wether they want a greener car or not, some people simply cannot afford to buy a car to qualify for it, but need a car for day to day life.

Thats the way the cookie crumbles so people can afford things and some can't. In 5 years time these "green" cars will become more affordable.

I could buy one but I am happy with my 1998 BMW 323i

I do love how the manufacturers have got wise to it and can produce a small turbo engine that will produce more power and less emmisions than my 2.0 N/A (and thus cost less than the hideous £235/year to tax)
  • My car insurance which is fully comp is cheaper for the year than my RFL.!

To the OP, I should ignore the stuck-up morons on here that are saying in so many words "oh, look at that pauper, he shouldnt have a car, he can't afford £112 for tax" This is a money saving forum after all, not a "post here and get sneered at" forum, whats with the attitude?
    anyway rant over.
There are ways round it, there's plenty of stuff under 1500cc that qualifies for the cheaper tax rate, depends on what sort of car you need. Astra, 306,focus,golf, all available with 1.4s.
    My dad had a '95 peugeot 106 1.5 diesel- £125 a year tax and 68 mpg.
There was a guy near me ran around for years in a ratty old mk2 cortina with a home fitted perkins 4/108 diesel engine- no tax to pay on something that old. I've owned plenty of pre-73 cars as everyday vehicles, although you need to be a little mechanically minded with these.
My brother owned the ultimate tax beater-a Fiat uno turbo Hot hatch. it would run rings around lots of bigger stuff, and only a 1.4 litre engine. The old suzuki swift GTi is much the same, really quick but only a 1.3.
I like the look of the Polo Bluemotion- free roadtax as the co2 is so low- but I can't see the financial benefit of having to spend 15k to do it, unless you are covering mega miles.

They don't do this for tax - turbo's work better at low RPM's than N/A cars, and as the EU's emissions and fuel consumption tests are all done at a specific RPM it makes them score better and thus appear more eco friendly...
