    I pay £30 a year for my tax but then I pay over £1500 a year in loan repayments!

    While £250 a year tax is very annoying in the grand scheme of things its peanuts compared to the overall costs of motoring and our road tax is still one of the cheapest in Europe.

    It is all relative. Check out the road tax costs for out Irish friends across the water:

    [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Band A: cars that produce 0-120g/km CO2 - €104 road tax;
    Band B: cars that produce 121g - 140g/km CO2 - €156 road tax;
    Band C: cars that produce 141g-155g/km CO2 - €302 road tax;
    Band D: cars that produce 156g-170g/km CO2 - €447 road tax;
    Band E: cars that produce 171g-190g/km CO2 - €630 road tax;
    Band F: cars that produce 191g-225g/km CO2 - €1,050 road tax;
    Band G: cars that produce 226g/km CO2 and over - €2,100 road tax

  • I had a nice surprise when I taxed my new motor (Mitsi L200). It comes under the LGV tax bracket and is far cheaper than my previous motor which was smaller and greener (like I care ;) ).

    £200 for the year :)
  • At one point I had a 1992 3.9 v8 range rover and was paying around the same as a workmate with a 2003 1.6 Zafira. I then bought a TDCI Mondeo at (presently) £155 a year.

    No need to pay any car tax. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/motoring/owningavehicle/taxationclasses/dg_4022042 get an old landrover or a steam engine!

    An old Land Rover get's my vote,

    Insurance (fully comp) about £100
    Spares, dirt cheap (Alternator about £29 - new. Complete Exhaust £30)
    Run on LPG so you get around miles for the COST of gallon of petrol, and little chance of a speeding fine.

    Thats annoying.... I KNOW how much tax is, as i already had a car in the same tax bracket before this one.... I am merely commenting on the fact it is NOT a choice wether to get a cheaper taxing car, as the only way you can get "£20 a year tax", cars, is if you have the money to do so. The rest of us have to fork out at least £125 per year. I think the main problem on here, is people do not read posts correctly, and make sneering comments.

    From your OP;

    " I am about to tax a car I have just bought. And seen the cost to tax it, £112.75 for 6 months!!!! "

    I think that the main problem is, some people forget just what they have posted.

    So you purchased the car, then found out how much the tax is.

    Came on here, and moaned about it.

    Ok, fair enough, I never typed the way I meant to say it. I was just commenting on the price, and that you dont have an option of getting to use the cheap tax incentive (£20 per year) unless you can afford to fork out the money for a new car... Man, I have repeated this so many times through this post, I am gettin a bit bored of it now. Obviously I am not allowed to voice my opinion without getting slated for it. Over and out...
